Can choose to sit in the corner of Sanem's living room as both their families, friends, and Yigit buzzed around the feast Mevkibe Annem had laid out for them. He was just watching them and he wondered if any one of them could see the pain he was going through.

He didn't know how to start, where to start or if he should at all. All afternoon the truth had been festering inside him like a wound.

Sanem caught the heated glances Can directed at Yigit and didn't miss the challenge that Yigit returned. Even when being civil the two had a way of setting ablaze and a cold room. The proposal incidence had been cleared and Yigit had explained why he part when it came to the creams. He was only being a good friend.

Other than the animosity between the two, Sanem had other things on her mind. Can hadn't mentioned their kiss and she was too embarrassed to ask him about it. She had already tried to approach him countless of times, but he had the aura of a wounded lion ready to pounce. Part of her afraid that he was angry at the kiss while the voice in her head convinced her otherwise.

"Sanem."

She wondered if she could someone cool the anger that was so visible on his face.

"Sanem!" Yigit called for her.

"Sorry, my head was just-," she shook her head to finish her sentence.

"Please help me with my plate," he smiled at her. Sanem didn't miss the look he shot at Can as he did.

"Why don't you just put that stick down and hold the plate yourself. It's not like you need it." The weight of Can's low baritone filled the room. It made everyone including Sanem turn towards him.

"Can, Yigit's leg has been bothering him," Sanem said. "You more than anyone should be more understanding."

"I understand better than anyone in this room." Can rubbed his palm over his face, cupped his jaw and scratched that one spot under his ear. He was frustrated and fighting for control of his anger. "For a whole year, I've had nightmares about that day. I always wondered why you'd bring him to the hut, knowing that it was my-our private space. I wondered why you'd believe that I burnt your journal-"

"We already talked about that. That night I was just confused, I spoke nonsense." A bubble of desperate emotion formed in her chest.

"I know a ten-minute mistake. But Sanem, even if you had apologized for that mistake, the damage was done, the scar it left will probably never disappear especially after knowing what I know now."

"Abi?" Emre took a step forward as Can stood from the chair. Emre put his hand on Can's chest as if to still him. "Calm down."

Can pushed his hand away and took a step towards Yigit. "I got two burns because of you. The first one when I grabbed Sanem's journal from the fire YOU threw in to. The second one when I saved my-Sanem's bandana from the hut that YOU set on fire."

It was weird how the battle of rage and control that roared inside him brought on his calm composure. His fists itched to connect with Yigit's face. He wanted to offload everything that he had gone through in the past year on his face but this weird calmness held him back.

Sanem stepped in between him and Yigit. He could hear the tremble in her voice as she asked, "What is he talking about?"

"It's nonsense. He's just lying. Sanem, you know how jealous Can can be," the shrill in Yigit's wasn't missed by anyone in the room.

"Jealous, yes. I'm a jealous person. It was obvious to some of us in this room that you were and are still in love with Sanem. It's the reason you didn't want her to find out about the journal and probably why you burnt it in the first place. You just couldn't handle the truth that was written in it, that Sanem would never love you the way she loved me. I'm just wondering what your motive was?" Can turned towards his mother. So far she had stayed silent and in a way trying to disappear inside the couch she was sitting on.

"Annem, no Huma Hanim what was your motive? Why would you come back into the life of the son you abandoned only to ruin it? What exactly did I do that was so wrong that you always have to destroy a part of me?"

Can took a step back as his father and brother crowded him. He watched closely as his mother stood up, looking for any sign of remorse. Something that would somehow restore a little bit of faith in the woman who gave him life. But, Huma's stuck her jaw out in defiance. She ignored both Aziz and Emre's questioning and held Can's gaze.

Can looked away hiding the pain of betrayal away. One last time he looked at Huma then at Sanem, the two women in his life and wondered what the point of all of it was.
