You sat on your chair and noticed a cup of coffee. You touched it, it was already cold. You looked at Zhang Xinjie, did he wait here for a while? Just to be sure, you cautiously asked:
"Since when were you here?"
"After my morning walk."
That early? You felt bad... a tad.
"Sorry, slept late yesterday. Thanks for the coffee, appreciate it," you held up the cup.
"It must be cold, I'll bring you a new one."
"No need," you hastily stood up and stopped him.
He looked you directly in the face, his serious eyes examined you and you felt like an experiment on the table that was about to be sliced open.
You retracted your hand and nervously glanced around.
"So what does the vice-captain want?"
"About that," he approached you and then sat in the chair next to yours.
"We should go over the map. We have a match soon and we need to be able to use it to the best of our potential."
"So, exploiting any loopholes, got it."
"It's not exploiting, it's using the map for what it is."
You rolled your eyes, how upright could someone get?
"Alright, let's use the map as it is while exploring possibilities that could lead to potential tamper- hidden paths," you deliberately slowed down your speech and 'accidentally' slipped out some words that made his eyebrows furrow.
You enjoyed the view.
"Aren't you doing this because of Ye Xiu's exploit- using the map as it is?" you had your fun before he towered over you, leaned closer, so close your faces almost touched and pushed his glasses up, right in front of your nose.
You gulped.
Then he stood straight again and sat down before the computer.
You broke out in sweat. The hell? He did all that, the painful anticipation just to make a stand, without even saying anything?
Was that really Zhang Xinjie? Were you really able to reduce him to someone that petty with a few words?
"Ok, I'm sorry, I won't do that anymore," it worked, goodness, you gave in and apologised!
There you go! Are you content?
You looked at him but you couldn't see his face properly. Were you imagining things again? Was he smiling? You shook your head and looked at him. The smile was gone. You rubbed your temples. The silence was quite uncomfortable.
"Vice-captain, please say something..." it literally rained sweat from your body.
Minutes passed and you still sat in silence! You didn't even know which damn map he meant!
How were you supposed to work like that?
"I'm really, really sorry ok? Don't give me the cold treatment, after all, I'm working my ass off for your success," you huffed and were about to shake him and throw him on the ground.
Zhang Xinjie sighed.
That punctual maniac sighed at you! You should be the one-
But then he turned around and again, closed in on you. You could feel your heart leaping out of your body, he was too close. This time his hand wandered up to his face yet stood still before grabbing your cheeks.
Was that really the vice-captain?
While his one hand remained on your face, he looked at the watch on his other.
He sighed again.
"It's time to go to practice. There's something I need to show you. So come to my room at 10 pm. Don't forget."
And just like that, he left. You blinked in confusion, he had something to show you? What was that? And why in the world was it in his room at such an inauspicious time?
But you had no time to think about it as your fellow colleagues arrived and the workday fully commenced.
You didn't know when but you slowly started to drift off into wonderland. You were too tired and the next thing you know was being gently pushed awake.
Still sleepy, you lifted your head and looked the culprit in the eyes.
And immediately you jumped awake.
"Shoot, what time is it?" you mumbled as you looked at the computer.
11.30 pm.
You looked around, no one was present.
Those idiots couldn't they've woken me up?
You ruffled your hair as realisation daunted on you.
11.30 pm? Wait! You turned around and sure enough stared at a full flesh, in person Zhang Xinjie.
He really was here! No way! It was way past his bedtime! Shouldn't he be snuggled inside his warm blanket and be deadly asleep?
You held your hands up in guilt.
"Sorry, vice-captain, I overslept and forgot the time. I'm really sorry," you clasped your hands together and squeezed your eyes shut.
For a moment it was quiet before you felt the weight of a body pressed against yours, and his breath hit your ear as his low voice vibrated in your body:
"You should move in with me, so you won't ever forget the time again, I'll make sure of it."
