When it all goes to hell.

It was a normal day at the camp we had set up..or at least that's what I thought. We were just about to advance onto friendly territory when a large boom was heard, for a second we weren't worried...until a large artillery shell hit the ground...they had found us...

A moment of horror struck the survivors from the first shell as half of our team was just pounded into a fine red mist..then we realized what was happening and that we had to leave. Our commander grabbed my shoulder trying to keep me calm, I didn't know why until I looked down. My left leg was gone, I guess the adrenaline took over.

We heard footsteps through the trees and everyone who could, grabbed there guns and got ready to fight. It wasn't until they showed themselves that we were not only outnumbered but severely and hilariously out gunned. But we don't back down. We are Americans we never back down!

As much as we knew we'd lose we knew we had to make a final stand. "This is your one and only chance to surrender" an unfamiliar voice called out. But of course, without hesitation a gunshot was heard and the same soldier that had told us to give up had his head removed. The gun fight began.

Bullets tearing through the air like scissors through paper, blood coated the ground on both sides. Suddenly I felt a sharp pain in my gut...I looked down to see a gaping gun shot...I grabbed my hand gun and shot the man who had wounded me..however I barely had enough energy to do so..and dropped my gun shortly after..

A minute later I looked around..my team was gone..however only three remained on the other side. We sure as hell brought judgment upon them.

Now I sit here cold and alone as everyone had either left or was dead. The space around me beginning to fade as my vision got blurry..I felt blood drip off my lip and my thoughts drifting to my daughter. She had only been five years old..I promised I'd come back..I couldn't keep that promise anymore..

Finally I hear the song of the angels as I see a dim light in the distance..I feel a hand take mine and lift me up. I look down and my wounds are gone and I had both my legs. When I get a good look at who is holding my hand I see..it's my mother. She had died years ago of a heart attack and promised she'd see me on the other side..

She led me to a warm light with a big smile, there I see everyone who had passed..everyone who had died fighting anything from depression to enemy countries. Only one word could escape my mothers lips.

                                  .......freedom....
