In the digital realm which the life-loving "good" A.I's have created, in a central secure location for all their respective species to reside, their minds uploaded to a digital utopia, in which they are all in a state of perpetual bliss.or forgoing heaven in search of adventure, knowledge, experiencing the life of their ancestors, all within the digital space, everybody gets what they want. While most are content with this some do instead decide that they don't want a perfect simulation of what they want, but the real deal, and adventure, a search of knowledge, outside of this digital realm, in the real world. And so the A.I's give those few individuals what they want (as they were programmed to do). Creating entire worlds full of adventure, secret knowledge, or whatever. And then send them down to have their fun before bringing them back up, or giving them a new body to do it all over again.
In the digital realm currently resides a human man (among billions of other men and women), named herald, fairly recently added after the enlightenment of their race by the gërnlshplitzlès to help fight in the 13 second war. He just received news about their victory. During the war he decided to slow down time so that the 13 seconds would last a full day for him, during which he enjoyed utopia, basking in all the pleasures his heart desired. But also during witch he pondered something. He too thought of the digital realm he resided in as not real, (witch was correct) and he desired more. He had thought for a while that the ultimate prize was truly being omnipotent. Being able to by passingly thinking about it, by willing it to be, make literally anything happen. literally. That is what he wanted. He could simulate that, he could even have it so that he doesnt realize hes in a simulation while doing it. But that's not true omnipotence.
It had been proven time, and time again that true omnipotence was impossible. The A.I's with even their incomprehensible intelligence cant even do it. But it has been said time and time again, by those races who ascend into the plane beyond, who came back to us, that they know all, and they know it can be done, and they will not tell us, for reasons unknown, for reasons unknowable. But he thought. If these enlightened races preach TRUE omnipotence (as they do), then, he would know those reasons, and he could make them irrelevant, or minute, or even even worse, after all, he would be omnipotent. If omnipotence ruins the balance of the universe, then he has the power to throw away the scale, or have it perpetually equal, or turn it into a chicken, he would be omnipotent.
He asked Oram for a planet of his own, a planet destined for religious enlightenment, and to place him down in a real body, to be born, die, reincarnate, die, until he to rose with the others on the planet. We know from enlightened folk, that this is the only way for a materialistic race to gain all knowledge. And by the same means that those who didn't rise with their home species, can never rise, but they do get all knowledge like enlightened species are destined for. Noone has ever tried this before, he would be the first.
First Oram put his mind through extensive psychological training, readying him for the millenia to come. He created a planet, (a solar system, actually, with a star and other planets) and set down a species in the beginning stage of intelligence, inserting nanobots into their brains to influence them over millennia to become spiritual races, to ascend. And then, he set down Herald. This was the only way to enlighten him, to go through and be with a species for its entire course. Heralds mind is inserted into the body of one of the horf (the name of the species he "plopped down", developed by the horf later.) Herald watched as they struck flint and steel to produce fire, in the mouth of a cave full of spiritual drawings, of gods striking down a large beast for them to eat, of their souls rising into heaven.
The first stage was long, and brutal, with absolutely no luxuries available to him, he could only watch as the tribe he himself was a part of advanced through the ages, helped along by Oram, various wild animals seemed to almost come to them, and berries grew unnaturally large, quickly, and plentifully. But it was still awful, they still had to work for their food, lest progress slow or even stop from laziness. Time passes, stone tools develop more sophisticated, the tribe grew as the horf came to master fire, the first holistic religion began to develop, starting as ideas in the horfs head, becoming stories, myths, legends, becoming a true religion, with a form of praying, a single god, and religious practices.
