Surrounding me were tall lanky dark trees, hitting the grey cloudy sky. Thick layers of fog seeped through the fingers of the trees and the hard bark on the logs. The ground underneath me was soaking wet with mildew. Thanks to the fog I could hardly see anything in this nightmarish world.
"B-Back away you, monster!" I yelled at the top of my lungs, spitting venom at the demon in front of me. I held my wooden bat back as I gripped it tight in my hands, feeling the splinters press into my palms and fingertips. I took in a shaky breath while I mentally prepared myself to swing the second He got any closer.
"What do you want from me?" I screamed to Him trying my best to seem like I wasn't afraid of Him, but I knew He could see right through my simple mind.
He. Knows. Everything. He knows my fears, my dreads, my past, my mistakes, and even my whole life story. When I say everything I mean, EVERYTHING. That's the secret to how He manipulates people's minds. He digs deep into His victim's thoughts and finds out what upsets them, what brings them down, what breaks them, and what destroys them. Just so they can fall right into His devious hands. After they do, there's no going back. The victims are instantly His; His puppets dancing on imaginary blood red strings. How do I know this? I know this, because He did the same thing to our creator and my closest friend, Jack.
"You've already taken everything I've ever cared for! What more do you want?" I screamed louder to Him as my voice cracked and warm salty tears streamed from my glistening baby blue eyes. Now He knew for sure that I was terrified. My stomach then turned at His useless response. All He did was laugh that same old high-pitched sickening cackle. I looked back up at His sickening sea green eyes that burned straight through me. I hated that He looked just like us. The only thing that made Him different from us was His hair. His hair burned a bright fiery green that feel in front of His piercing eyes. He stopped laughing and took in a deep shallow breath then stared at me with a disgusting crooked smile on His pale wicked face.
"You." He bluntly spoke out. His voice was distorted and high-pitched just like His laugh. My eyes widened, revealing more of the white color in my sockets.
"M-Me?' I stuttered out while the ground made of tar underneath me cracked. The second I heard the sound of the ground giving up on holding my weight any longer, I changed my gaze from the creature in front of me to the pavement beneath my feet. I gulped hard. My adam's apple bounced in response from the sudden force. Underneath me was a deep crack that lead towards His feet. I looked back up at Him with fear and horror dancing in my eyes.
"Goodbye, Chase," He spoke with glee as the floor beneath me opened wide and swallowed me whole. I screamed and cried as I reached for something, anything to grab onto just to make me stop plummeting to my death. Tears filled the brim of my already watery eyes. As I got further and further to the ground I took one last look at the abyss around me then closed my eyes, gave up, and accepted my fate. Just like he wanted me to.
I gasped and jerked up from my bed, feeling layers of cold sweat sticking to my porcelain skin. My heart skipped a couple beats as I frantically looked around my cold dark room, the one place I remember passing out drunk in.
I realized that the nightmare I had just witnessed was all in my head, a mere hallucination. I closed my eyes and opened my mouth slightly taking in cold fresh air to calm my racing heart. My poor heart was beating so hard I thought it would end up bursting through my rib cage.
"It's alright Chase," I calmly told myself, "It was just a nightmare. A mere dream. Nothing to worry about." I kept repeating those same words to myself over and over again even though I knew it wasn't true.
I forcefully pushed myself up from my cozy bed and groggily headed over towards the windows. I gripped the bright blue silk curtains that covered the clear panes behind them with my fingertips and yanked them back letting the warm sun overcome my icy cold body. The warmth brought a small smile to my face. Quickly heading towards the bathroom I walked inside and stared at myself in the glass plane. Staring back at me was a mess. My soft brown hair was matted together, underneath my eyes were bags with different shades of blacks, blues, and purples, and my goatee looked ragged. I looked like I haven't been outside in years, or slept in days. Which is partially true. I groaned at my attire then, not caring I pulled on a pair of black jeans and a grey hat over my moppy hair. I slipped on a pair of black and white tennis shoes and pushed through my front door into the busy city of Brighton, England.
I mentally slapped myself in the face once I realized that I forgot to call Henrik and the others. I swiftly reached for the phone in my back pocket and pulled it out from its hidey hole. After quickly dialing his number onto my phone I placed the phone next to my ear keeping it a distance away, because I knew that Henrik was not going to be too happy with me. I listened in as the phone rang. My heart began to pick up the pace again from the anxiety that ran through my head. Finally after a few more seconds passed by, Henrik finally picked up the phone.
"H-Hey Henrik I-" I began before I was interrupted by Henrik angrily yelling my name full name.
"Käze Villiam Bröt!" Henrik yelled into the phone as his German accent thickened, "Vhere have you been? It'z been zhree dayz! Ve've been vorried zick!"
I went quiet for a moment for a few minutes before answering his question. "Sorry, I've just," I deeply sighed, "I've just been thinking about the mess we're in right now and what we're going to do about Anthony. Henrik, we can't keep running away and not do anything! He's already taken Jack, and Marvin might be next, maybe even Jackie, or maybe even me! I've been having strange nightmares about him, ya know. And anyway you already know they haven't been doing too well! Jackie and Marvin can't fight like they use to. Not anymore. All you've been doing is just sitting around, hiding and waiting for the next time he shows up as Marvin and Jackie are slowly dying from, Septic Illness. Do you not remember what happened last time? What happened-" I hastly cut myself off. I didn't want to continue any further, being afraid that I might say something that I would regret later.
"I-I know. I get it. I get zhat your upset and I get-"
"No!" I aggressively shouted into the phone cutting him off, "You don't get it! You know what forget it! I'm doing this on my own." I growled darkly. I angrily ended the call as I heard Henrik worryingly called out my name.
"Anthony McLoughlin. I'm coming for your ass." Was the last thing I said before everything went black. I opened my eyes and saw Him standing in front of me once again with the same smile from before.
"Welcome back, Chasie," Anthony said mockingly.
