Another Color

Intro/Author's Note

I just wanted to add this before starting the story so nobody is left confused. It will have a better explanation further in the story, but it didn't fit in the beginning and it can be really confusing if you don't know about it from the get-go.

The main character in the story, Lena (Lennie), has Synesthesia. Synesthesia is a neurological condition that affects how people perceive their senses. A person with Synesthesia may associate a color with a smell, a smell with a taste, a taste with a sound, etc. For example, a person without the condition would see this text in black, but some synesthetes would see it in various colors. Another type is when a person can literally taste their words. In basic terms, their senses work together instead of individually. This is an incredibly rare condition, but it is real.

There is also a type referred to as "Emotional Synesthesia" where a person relates their emotions with different colors, sort of like a mood ring. Similarly, there have been people who claim that certain people have their own color (auras). These are the types that Lennie has, so sometimes she'll talk about how a specific color surrounds certain people or how a sound makes her feel a certain way or see a certain color. Even though this isn't a very understood condition, I do find it fascinating and wanted to write about it. That being said, I am no expert so if I write something and it isn't 1000% accurate, I apologize.

As of right now I only have face claims for the two main characters, but more will be added throughout the story as a footnote.
