a knight's promise // botw link x reader

the heart of the hero

everything was quiet, the only sounds you could hear was link's heart. you closed your eyes as you concentrated on his beating heart, the thumping of it making you breathe along rhythmically. you felt link tighten his grip even more as he closed his eyes as well, his other hand now placing it behind your head and gently holding it there. 

"y/n..."

"oi! what happened to you, y/n? you look so tired!"

you groaned a little and opened your eyes to see anya and judo staring blankly at you. 

"h-huh?"

judo pushed your bowl towards you and spoke with worry.

"you look like you didn't sleep at all last night...bad dream?"

"huh-oh, um...yeah, sure."

anya eyed you suspiciously and quickly glanced at judo. judo just stared straight at you, his face showing signs of worry and curiosity. anya raised an eyebrow and looked at you. your eyes were half closed and you yawned. she looked back at judo and saw him flutter his eyes a bit. 

ah.

anya smiled and spoke to you.

"hey, y/n, you wanna go watch the knight's train for a little?"

judo cut in.

"what? why would she want to go watch the knights? she's tired, anya. let her rest here for a bit. she clearly had no sleep whatsoever last night."

"huuuuh? but judo, a little fresh air could help y/n wake up. besides, we're setting up for the ball today so she'll need to be fully awake for such an important event like this!"

"hmm, i guess that's true..."

anya giggled and grabbed your arm and dragged you towards the knight's training grounds whilst you yawned again. judo stayed behind and talked to a few of his other friends but watched the two of you leave. anya stopped near one of the open entrances to the grounds and let you lean against one of the stone columns there. 

"hey, look y/n! there's link."

you opened your eyes fully and searched for the blonde knight. your e/c eyes fell on link as you watched him train with a knight you knew as caleb. they looked like they were having a battle session. 

link easily dodged caleb, his swift movements missing caleb's swinging perfectly. 

wow, his form is amazing!

you've never seen link in a battle before, at least not this close and you felt yourself get more and more less tired as you watched the two knights.

caleb struck at link, but link blocked it with his sword and flung it away, making caleb's sword land somewhere near the other knights. link then raised his sword straight into caleb's face, the tip a few centimetres away. link's eyes were narrowed and he had a stoic expression.

caleb rolled his eyes and walked away to get his weapon and his friends teased him for losing against link but only got caleb to shout at them and grow embarrassed from the fight, but it was expected to lose against the chosen champion after all. caleb and his friends walked towards you and his bright green eyes caught yours.

"hey, y/n right? you're a new maid here, from hateno village?"

"uh, yeah sort of. i've been here for about a month now, i think..."

"i see, well, we'll definitely be running into each other often."

caleb winked at you and walked away, his sword on his back and a smirk on his face. link watched the whole time, his eyes narrowing even more as he watched caleb talk to you. link placed his sword onto his back and stared at you.

you stared back at him and saw him lift the corner of his mouth a bit, he was giving you a smile. a smile where he knew that no one else could see but you. you smiled back and gave him a little wave. link's cheeks flushed and he instantly turned away and started helping the others train. 

you giggled and looked back at anya. 

"let's go set up, there's a lot to do!"

"well, that seemed to wake you up, y/n."

"yeah..."

anya smirked at you and you punched her arm, your cheeks going red as you saw anya wiggle her eyebrows, glancing at link then at you. you laughed and shut her up.

"y/n!"

you turned around to see a royal guard walk quickly towards you. the guard stood in front of you and anya with a worried expression.

"princess zelda has made a request to see you, please go to her quarters immediately."

"u-uhh, yes, sir!"

the royal guard left and you waved goodbye at anya as you started to walk your way towards zelda's bedroom. you assumed that she needed you for a chore or just for a simple chat but from the way the guard was acting, this sounded serious. you walked up the stone stairs and knocked on her door.

"come in!"

you opened the large doors and walked inside.

"ah! y/n! i'm so glad you're here, we have an emergency!"

"what is it, zelda? did something happen?"

zelda hurriedly walked over to her many wardrobes and opened them all, her fancy dresses and attires filling up your view. you looked at zelda with a confused expression and she turned to you, giving you a big smile on her face.

"we need to find you an outfit for the ball!"
