Part 7: The Return

I walk back over to Piper, blood seeps through her shirt, I rip off a piece of my shirt and wrap it around her shoulder where she was hit, Ron has stopped screaming. I look over my shoulder and see the zombies walk towards us, I help Piper up and supporting her we escape.

2 HOURS LATER

Anita slowly walked behind us, I hadn't said anything for a while, I clutched my eyepatch in my hand, Piper walked in front looking out in every direction trying to spot food or people, I missed Tony, I missed him a lot, Piper looks back "I think I see Tony" I look up, my eyes widen, I run past Piper and look down into a paddock.. And I couldn't believe it... Tony was standing there in the field, his red hair ruffling in the wind, his beard was getting longer too, I started running and when I reached Tony his eyes widened as well and I hugged him, my arms wrapped around him so tightly he gasped, he wrapped his arms around me as well and I grinned "I missed you Tony... I-I fucking missed you" Tony looks down at me "Language" he says pretending to be stern, Anita and Piper run down to where we were. "This is Anita a friend of mine" Tony nods and looks at Piper "We better get you back to the house".

We arrived at a house in the paddock, Anna sat with a baby on her lap, Rob was sitting at a table with two men I didn't recognise, a couple of girls were sitting on the stairs talking, it was almost like it was a family reunion, Anita and Piper walk over to Anna and she starts helping Piper, Ron taps my shoulder "Can I speak to you outside?".

Tony sits on a rocking chair and I sit opposite him, he looks at me "Kyle I need you to tell me what happened" so I recount everything that happened, about the hospital and the battle with Ron "Shit" he sighs, Tony gently touches my hand "I have to tell you something Uh I know it may not be the best of time but... Your parents may have never had the chance and... Anyway.. Anna wanted me to talk to you about... Well do you know what uh sex is?" I put my hands over my face and jumped back "Yes I do please no more talking!" He laughs "Sorry um well..." He stands up awkwardly and walks back inside "Tea's ready". I stare after Tony and realise I didn't have my eyepatch on the whole time... As if he didn't care and just wanted to protect me... I smiled and that's when I heard a voice from behind me.

"Hey Kyle."

I turned around and saw Rebecca standing there with her right arm on her hip, she had a knife in her boot, her hair was tied back, she had combat boots on and a pistol hanging on her belt, she had a grey military singlet on and my jaw dropped "Rebecca?" She smiles and walks up the steps to give me a hug, I hug her tightly back "Where have you been?!" She smiles and steps back "Around" I give her a play punch and we walk inside, Tony looks at Rebecca and Anna screams "Becky?!" everyone looks at us and I sit next to Tony, there's literally a feast, they've made a barbie, I chew on a sausage and know this is the last time I will ever eat like this for a long time.

I lay in bed listening to the girls talk when Anna comes and lays down next to me "Kyle I want you to know... Tony and I were discussing... We kinda want to adopt you in a way" I nod and look at her "Cool that's seems awesome" she smiles and kisses me on the forehead "Great so get some sleep" I nod and dream of nothing.

I wake up to the sound of gunshots, I jump up and look out the window, they're just practicing, I walk down the stairs to see boxes and boxes of cereal left on the table, a blonde girl sits there "I'm Amy" I shudder thinking of the girl we met six months ago, she taps the seat next to her and I sit down pouring myself spun Crunchy Nut "So what's your name?" "I'm Kyle" she nods "I'm 16" I look down, I had forgotten all about my birthday "I'm 15" she smiles "You wanna go someplace else?" I stand up "Uh sorry I have to talk to Tony" I left Amy with a frown on her face.

I walk up next to Tony "How long will we stay here?" Tony shrugs "Depends" I nod and we silently look out into the paddock, a screams breaks the silence, Rob starts running towards us "Zombies... In... Killing" I frown and run towards the action with my gun in hand and so does Tony.

People getting eaten is the worst... Rob was taken down, the girls were, Anna ran towards us with the baby and Rebecca and Anita I saw ran with them in the opposite direction, Tony grabbed my hand "It's too late now Kyle" with that we turned and ran into the darkness.
