I was in the middle of a hunger games match when it happened.

Sheer adrenaline coursed through my veins as I got the final swipe on my opponent.  I high-fived my best friend, Jerome, who was standing next to me.

"Woo! 2 more kills until deathmatch!" I exclaimed.  Jerome was nodding when he saw it.

The body was still there.

He tilted his head, which is how I knew he was confused. I looked behind me and saw the lifeless body of someone I had never even known on the floor.

"That isn't normal." I muttered, stepping closer to see if there was any loot on him. I poked him with my sword to turn him around, and instantly jumped when I saw the red liquid that I now know as blood pouring out of his side.

We both glanced at each other, nervous.  He was definitely dead. But why didn't he respawn in the lobby of the game? His body should have disappear in a puff of white smoke.

But it didn't, the body was still there, armor on and everything.

We didn't have time to think at that moment though.

A voice came on over the loudspeakers.  "We are going to teleport everyone out of the arena. Something has happened. We'll explain after everyone is safe."

"Safe? "  I remember thinking,"I thought the whole point of the hunger games is to be unsafe."

My vision went dark, and when it came back, I was in one of the game's lobbies. Jerome was't next to me anymore. He must've gotten teleported somewhere else. I made my way through the crowd of people surrounding this poor guy who was trying to stay on top of a podium.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry we had to interrupt the game. But something has changed. We will not be doing anymore hunger games, skywars, or any other game where you can die at this site anymore. It's too dangerous, and if you don't know why, then listen up.

Nobody listened to him, mostly because they were angry that their favorite games wouldn't be allowed anymore. If I had known that what he was about to say next , I wouldn't have stormed out of there without getting to Jerome first.

I wouldn't have left until I knew he was safe.

But I didn't know anything back then. So I went home, Jerome knew where to find me if he wanted to play something else.
