Pamela had the entire apartment to herself more often than not since Rebecca and Colby started dating, yet her roommate still hadn't moved out and still paid half of the rent. It hadn't bothered Pamela since she hadn't walked in on them in any sort of a compromising position (which surprised her a little). Whenever she let herself in and they were around, they were usually either quietly cuddling on the couch while watching something on TV, or playing video games, which got competitive and loud at times.

Once she got to the apartment, she leaned her ear against the door for a moment and heard an exchange.

"She's due back soon, isn't she?"

"Yeah. We got time. It's not a conversation that has to happen right away."

Pamela slipped her key into the keyhole and turned it, letting herself in as quietly as she could as they talked, lifting her suitcase and gently placing it by the kitchen counter.

"I was just thinking maybe I should get going soon. Maybe it's better if I'm not around for that."

"Don't worry about it right now, she's fine with having you around. You're her friend too."

Walking into the living room area of the open concept apartment, Pamela chimed in nonchalantly, "As long as you're still wearing pants, it's totally fine."

The pair looked like they hadn't expected to see her there, which made her smile despite herself as she dragged her suitcase over to her bedroom door and stood there. The open layout of the apartment allowed her to be able to stand near her room and still interact with the pair in the living room area.

"Hey, Pam," Rebecca greeted her roommate as she dropped a controller on the couch and gave Pamela a hug.

"Hey." Her greeting was subdued and calm.

Colby sat up and gave a casual wave. "Hi, Pam."

"What have you guys been up to?"

Colby decided he would be the one to reply, keeping the tone casual. "Just a little Mario Kart today, keeping it light and fun. Went to the PC to work out earlier."

"That's good, I'm going to go unpack." And she punctuated her sentence with the sound of her bedroom door opening and closing again after she'd entered it with her suitcase.

Uninterested in whatever conversation Rebecca and Colby had been talking about having with her, Pamela left her suitcase near her closet and went to stretch out on her bed. As much as she loved visiting San Jose and sleeping in her childhood room, it was nice to be in her own bed.

She'd almost drifted off to sleep when her phone went off. Sitting up on her bed, she picked it up from her bedside table to check it.

< I was just thinking about you. Wanted to see how you were doing. >

She knew why he'd been thinking about her, just like she had a feeling she knew what conversation Rebecca wanted to have with her. Before she could stop herself, the reply escaped her fingers.

< Just got in. A little tired, but nothing some sleep can't fix. >

She held her phone as she stretched out on her bed again. Almost immediately, the response came in.

< I've needed this break so badly for the last two years. I'm sorry it's had to be at your expense. Again. >

Pamela let out a frustrated sigh.

< Last time, you were busy. A lot was happening for you back then. Besides, you'll see me next week. >

< That's the plan, then some guest coaching at the PC while you're in Asia. >
