At almost half past 11, my 14 year old sister Bonnie turned up in the back of our parents' old Toyota. She looked better than me, I must say. She had a cute, simple black and pink summer dress on with gladiators and a black purse clutched in her manicured hands.

"What's the occasion?" I said, gesturing to her outfit. She usually shows up in cutoff shorts, thongs and a printed crop top, so I was surprised by this change of dress.

Bonnie blushed slightly. "I overheard Dan saying to his friends that he was going to meet them at the Westfield food court today for brunch, so…" she trailed off."Who's Dan?" I said suspiciously. "Just this guyyyyyyyyy…" she trailed off again and I laughed.

"You want any juice?" I asked and she said no, and that she wanted to get going ASAP to catch Dan at Westfield. I agreed and replied that I did not want to miss out on seeing this "Dan".

A few hours later, I watched Bonnie exchange phone numbers with "Dan" while I spied on them from a mezzanine. So much for family day, I laughed to myself as I texted Bonnie to meet me at Sanity.

When I was back home and Bonnie had gotten picked up by Mum in her Mazda 3, Lenny texted me.

Lenny Pearce: Heyyy. How'd the shopping go

Me: Yeah, good. I set my sister up with someone I approved of. Ah, young love

John Pearce: Come on len, admit it. You couldn’t give a shit abount how the shopping went

Me: John? Where the hell did you come from?

Lenny Pearce: Group chat. Sorry if you don’t approve… but too bad

Me: nah, all good. Just surprised

Me: also kinda disappointed, john's an asshole

John Pearce: STILL HERE

Me: KIDDING

We continued verbally killing one another for ages until John left to get the burning dinner from the oven and Len remembered that he was still outside Woolworths.

At around 8, Len texted again.

Lenny Pearce: Here you can profess your beliefs of John's asshole-ness. Its just us

Me: perfect. John is a complete and utter self-centered asshole…

Lenny Pearce: Hehehehe….

Me: Just kidding.

Me: Don't tell him I said that

Lenny Pearce: too late

Me: Len?

Me: Ugh!

Lenny Pearce: I was wondering when we could meet up again sometime.

Me: Well, maybe you should consult when the other boys are free first

Lenny Pearce: Not all the boys, just us. We can maybe go to the beach or something.

At this point I began to get nervous. Just us?

Me: I have work mon, tues, thurs. Monday is only 2hrs. Others r 5

Lenny Pearce: when do you start tom?

Me: 8. in the AM. Ugh.

Lenny Pearce: Meet you at the park between Manchester and Forthill at 11? I'll b @ the swings. Loved them since I was a kid.

Me: If youre going to be swinging on playground swings when I get there I don’t want to b seen with you…

Lenny Pearce: haha. Very funny (note the sarcasm) I'll b @ the BENCH near the swings, ya dipshit

Me: ok, I guess. C u then

Lenny Pearce: yeah, c u then tori.

I just watched TV  after that, watching whatever was on. At bedtime, I got a mention in one of Lenny's Instagram posts. The picture was a selfie of him on his bed. The caption read:

Missing my sleepover chicka @ToriYoung91. She scares away the monsters of the night.

There were a few nasty comments saying "Yeah, she scared them away with her ugly face," but I felt better seeing all the people battling the mean ones saying that they were just jealous of my pretty looks and should keep those comments to themselves.

Even though they were probably just a heap of girls Bonnie's age, I felt grateful for them sticking up for me. And that they were saying that I was pretty.

Turned out John had also posted a picture of Len on his bed, cuddling a teddy.

@lennyjc missing his sleepover buddy @ToriYoung91. Not sure the teddy can substitute for such and amazing lady :)

I almost awwed out loud at his caption and fell asleep that night with a smile on my face.
