CHAPTER 21

Yuri and Tasha stood in position, what they agreed upon about their entrance was that they would stand apart from each other and at the start of the music they would spin and glide towards each other then hold on to each other, do one spin together and start from there

When the music was started, so did Yuri and Tasha. Just like what they agreed upon, the girls spin and glide towards each other, held each other and started waltzing around covering almost every space available. At the end of the dance, Yuri and Tasha separated, although still held hands before taking a bow

Their friends clapped as they approach them. Tasha and Yuri sat on the floor in front of them

“So what do you guys think?” asked Yuri

“It was good overall, the waltz was great but it lacked dramatic passion and connection” Summer criticized

“Really?” Yuri reacted while Amber and Tasha stared at each other pokerfaced

“Yeah, it seemed so rehearsed and the two of looked so disconnected and you’re already holding each other” Kristen added

Yuri glimpsed at Tasha then turned back to her friends, “I guess we could work on that, you guys have any suggestions?”

“You could try making more eye contact” Summer said

“Yeah and do an end pose, maybe you guys could do the hand-grazing-on-the-face thing while staring at each other to add more drama and passion since the music you chose was like a sad love song” Kristen added, “I did that with a dance partner back in high school for a dance contest and it made such a big difference since that move shows like a deep emotional connection”

Yuri thought quietly. Could she and Tasha pull that off given their current status and the confusion she’s been experiencing towards Tasha?

Once she made up her mind, Yuri turned to Tasha, “are you willing to do or at least try their suggestions?”

“Um…I-I guess” Tasha answered, almost stuttering, “If it’ll help improve the routine”

“Okay, so I guess we should start working on that”

And so they did but no matter how hard they try, they still look awkward and disconnected. Like there’s some kind of barrier between them, but, you know, maybe there really is one

“Maybe you two should work on the last pose and then work from there” Kristen said as she looked at the two tired girls sitting in front of her

It’s almost dusk and they’re still practicing. Yuri then stood, “let’s practice that once and call it a day”

Tasha looked up at Yuri and nodded before standing up

Yuri held Tasha’s hand and with a spin, Tasha is now in Yuri’s arms, bodies touching, face to face with only a few inches separation. Yuri gently grazed her hand on Tasha’s cheek, the two of them never breaking eye-contact

As if the world stopped right in front of her, Yuri’s stare deepened as Tasha stared back at her. Yuri’s chest tightened as she felt a spark ran across her body, making her feel weak at the knees and her heart sighing with content

Suddenly Tasha pulled away, almost breathless, her heart fluttering and her mind misting over from the close contact she had with the girl whom she slowly admitted she had fallen for

“I guess that’s enough for today” Tasha said, trying to regain composure, “thanks for the insights Kristen and Summer” then she approached Amber, “we’re just gonna go on ahead, see you guys!”
