Chapter One- Torn Apart

Start from the beginning

'"Your things are already packed; you should be good to go..."

Addison froze and turned around, facing Beth.

"What do you mean 'my things are already packed'?"

Beth's face flushed, as she realized she'd slipped up.

"Oh, your father is in his office waiting for you, go, go, and don’t keep him waiting!" Beth rushed off.

Addison heaved a sigh, and continued down the corridor. Doors lined the hallway. Pictures of Addison and her mother, Vivian, who had been diagnosed with cancer when Addison was fourteen and died when she turned fifteen, two years ago, sat on the walls. Addison stopped in front of one of the elevators. She opened the door and stepped inside. Pushing the number '5', she stepped back and closed her eyes, waiting for the incline of the elevator.

The "ding" echoed in the elevator and the door opened. Addison stepped out and took a deep breath. As she took her first step, her cell phone vibrated in her purse. She pulled it out and saw a text message from Hunter. It said:

Hey, hope I'm not too late, good luck w/ your dad today. Love you.

She opened they keyboard and messaged back:

Thanks. Love you too.

Sliding her phone back into her purse, she opened the door to Bruce's office.

Without looking up, he said, "Sit down."

Addison took the seat across from her father. He took a long drag on a cigarette and stared at her.

"You've lied to me. You've disobeyed me." He spoke slowly, his gaze burning into hers.

"Huh?" She asked, confused.

"I was going through your computer while you were out withLeslie," He put a slight emphasis on her name, "and I saw AIM conversations with Hunter Larason. About you sneaking out and how oblivious I am."

Addison's whole body went rigid and ice cold. She could barely drag air through her lips.

"I saw security tapes of you climbing out your bedroom window at night and I am going to do something about this."

Addison could feel the tears swim in her eyes. Her heart thudded in her chest.

"We're moving." Bruce said, "We're moving to Michigan tonight."

"Dad...you-you can't! You can't!" Addison cried.

"I can and I will."

"What about my friends? What about mylife?" Her voice took on a stubborn edge.

"You'll have to say goodbye, as for that boy, I think I know how to handle him."

"Handlehim?" Addison couldn't stop it, couldn't fight it. The tears welled up and slid silently down her cheeks.

"You are going to call him and tell him you never want to see him again. You will tell him you could never date a Larason. And you will tell him that it was all a lie. That you never loved him."

"But-" Addison was stunned.

"Call him now. And put it on speaker."

"And if I don't?"

"Then I'll disinherit you and you can go live with your aunt in Malibu."

Addison froze. Her aunt lived in a shack looking house and could barely afford food.

Addison forced her fingers to unlock, to reach for the phone. She dialed Hunters phone number and put it on speakerphone, so her father could hear. She prayed that he wouldn't pick up.
