"Baby." Jisoo tried.

Jennie turned slightly shaking her head. "I just wanted to-"

"Momma?" Jena's voice sounded from the doorway, causing both their heads to turn.

She was an adorable sight, rubbing her eyes with one hand, holding her blanket in the other, dragging behind her on the floor.

Any other time, and Jennie would have melted at the sight.

"Hi baby." Jennie greeted softly, but Jisoo wasn't about to let her get away with what she'd attempted.

"Jennie, you can't just-"

"Jisoo, I know."

"Mommy-"

"Hold on baby, I need to talk to momma. Jennie, you need to-"

Jennie tried to listen, to sort through the commotion, but her head was pounding, and her leg was aching painfully, and her damn phone kept lighting up and buzzing.

Notification after notification.

Opinion after opinion.

The truth was settling in, it seemed.

You might never play again, Jennie.

"Shit!" Jennie hissed, throwing her phone across the room, where it made a loud thud when it hit the wall, startling the toddler on the other side of the room.

Jena's eyes widened, shocked by Jennie's outburst. Her lower lip began to wobble, and Jisoo was barely able to school her expression in time to push herself off the bed.

"You're scaring her, Jennie. Take a minute and breathe." Jisoo ordered softly, before getting up and reaching out to scoop Jena up, carrying her out of the room, cooing softly.

Jena's watery eyes were wide and alight with shock as Jisoo carried her away, and Jennie could only watch her face helplessly, peeking over Jisoo's shoulder.

"Fuck." Jennie hissed as soon as they were out of earshot. "Fuck, fuck, fuck."

Jennie felt her face heat up, and suddenly the tears felt inevitable.

She felt a familiar pressure in her throat, and though she tried to force it down, it fought its way up, manifesting in a sob that she tried to muffle into the pillow.

*****

It wasn't until Jena had melted into the couch beside Fish, the dog resting his head in her lap, that Jisoo chanced a visit to their room, certain she was engrossed in her cartoons.

Jennie was still stretched out across the bed, with no signs of movement.

Jisoo's heart broke at the sight of her love, dejected and guilty as all hell.

"Baby." Her voice was soft, as she padded gently over to the bed, and decided to lay down beside her.

"I'm sorry." The first thing out of Jennie's mouth was an apology, and she glanced up at Jisoo, eyes full of unshed tears.

"Hey. Don't be." Jisoo continued, brushing a stray hair out of her face. "Look at all you've done for us. For me. You're allowed to snap sometimes-"

"I scared Jena." Jennie's voice was grim.

Jisoo snorted. "Jena freaks out when she walks past a mirror too fast, babe."

Jennie allowed herself a little chuckle, and Jisoo seized the moment, sidling closer until they were touching.

She could see a moment of contemplation in Jennie's eyes, as if deciding to reach out, and then a sudden flash of shame in her eyes, as she refused to meet Jisoo's gaze.
