Moonpaw awoke in a flash, screaming at the top of her lungs. She looked around and realized she was safe, in her nest, at the back of the apprentice's den. Moonpaw sighed with relief, and stoodup to lick her fur and stretch. " I hope the dawn patrol brought back prey, i'm starving! " she said, and slowly made her way to the clearing. There was little activity in the camp. Queens sunned their bellies while their kits play-fighted, mimmicking her brother, Frozenwing, as he showed off his newly made warrior marking. every cat gets a marking on their chest, a symbol to recognize our positions in the clan. I'm an apprentice, so I have a paw on my chest. Warriors get a paw with claws, and kits get a smaller paw. The elders get a paw with claws and three scratches on it, to symbolize their sacrafices to serve the clan. The medicine cat, the healer and reader of the stars in the clan, has a star with a leaf. the night of every naming ceramony, the leader takes the new warrior or apprentice to the moonpool, the home of Starclan, our warror ancestors, to get the mark. I had never seen a more boastful warrior before. Moonpaw walked to the fresh kill pile, and took a sparrow. She took it to the elders. The clan must be fed first, after all. but, she was stopped. Larkstar was calling her to his den. " Uh oh, here it comes. He's going to lecture me for practically alerting the whole forest with my scream this morning." Moonpaw murmured. she padded into Larkstar's den with her head lowered. "Larkstar, you, wanted to see me?" she asked, being careful of her loudness. Larkstar sat up, staring her down. "Yes, Moonpaw, I did. I have some bad news. I had a dream last night, and, I think, you did too, judging how you screamed so loud the Dark Forest could hear you!" Moonpaw looked down, ears burning in embarrasment. However, I did not bring you here for a lecture." Larkstar shifted uncomfortably on his haunches. Moonpaw looked up, curious about what he was about to say. "Moonpaw." Larkstar meowed, looking her seriously in the eye. Moonpaw flicked her tail uncomfortably, expecting bad news. Larkstar finally spoke again. " Darkness is coming."
