"Flight 294 to Manhattan is now boarding, please make your way to the terminal." said a voice. I sigh and stand up, looking at my parents and little sister before I head off to my new life.
"I love you guys so much. I'll miss you." I say, tearing up and hugging them. I tell myself to stamp the warm embrace into my mind, and never forget it. I bend down to Jenny's height and look straight into her warm brown eyes like my
Moms.
"Jenny, promise me youll take care of mommy and daddy while I'm gone. And be a good girl." she giggles cutely, her blond curls bouncing. Her tiny hand wraps around three of my fingers and she nods her head.
"I prowmise sissy." she says in a high pitched childish voice. I blink away Tears and stand up, facing my parents.
"We'll miss you baby girl. Don't party to much in college." I smile and laugh, it coming out heavy. We part and I grab my carry on bag and walk into
The terminal.
"Love you June-bug, Mum and Dad! I'll call you when I get to Manhattan!" I call back and walk onto the plane. I step onto the plane and hand the flight attendant my ticket.
"Hi! Welcome to American Airlines, thank you for choosing us to safely take you to your destination!" I tune out her memorized speech and think of how much I'll miss my parents. And Jenny. Going to start a new life without knowing anybody at the college. I smile secretly to myself. This should be fun. Meeting new people.
"You will be sitting in seat 24A, Miss Leonard." I snap out of my thoughts and smile at her.
"Thank you so much." I say and make my way to my seat. I sit down, taking the seat next to the aisle. I stash my bag into the little cubbyhole, sighing in frustration when it won't fit.
"Stupid thing! Just...... Fit!" I grunt and force it to go in. I smile victoriously and make a grunt of accomplishment. I hear quiet chuckling and turn to the man beside me. He looks to be about 23 with curly brown locks and green eyes crinkled in amusement. I smirk and sit up in my seat, and relax into it.
"Find my awesomeness to put a bag in a small place funny?" he looks at me in amusement and smirks back, shaking his head slightly.
"I find it endearing. Only a.... Special person would find accomplishment in something like that." says the man and I raise an eyebrow.
"Jealous of my skills, are we?"
"Whatever makes you sleep better at night." I roll my eyes playfully and stick out my hand.
"Melody Leonard. And you are?" he grabs my hand firmly and shakes.
"Jason Pickens." I let go and smile at him.
"Well its nice to meet you, Jason Pickles." He immediately frowns and narrows his eyes slightly.
"Pickens. Not pickles." he says. I nod my head slowly, talking to him like I would to a 4 year old.
"Pickles. I said that. Do you need to clean out your ears?"
"No." he deadpans. I shrug my shoulders and lean backwards, getting comfy.
"Whatever you say Pickles." I say. He mutters under his breath things I can't quite catch and I smile to myself. This should be a fun flight.
"Thor would so win." I say looking in disbelief to Jason. He shakes his head, his curls flopping everywhere while he does so.
"Nu huh! Captain America would win. One throw of his shield and Thor would be in two pieces." I roll my eyes, giving him a 'Are-You-Stupid' look.
"Thor would bash him with his hammer. Heck, he could just bang the ground with his hammer and Captain America-" I change my tone on 'Captain America' to make it seem
Like its a piece of trash. "-would blow up into smithereens!" Jason blanches and looks at me funny.
"What?" I say, giving him a weird look back.
"Did you seriously just say 'smithereens'? Who says that?"
"I do apparently." he laughs and shakes his head at me.
"Shh!" says a person in front of us and he stops laughing.
"Sorry." he whispers back and we look at each other an start giggling uncontrollably. Shaking with silent laughter, tears start to leak out my eyes. We stop and I let out a breath. I look around at the sleeping passengers, and out to the dark night sky. I think about how weird it is to have known someone for 4 hours and feel like you've known them all your life. Im snapped out of my thoughts when suddenly, a voice comes over the speakers.
"Hello passengers! Sorry if I'm waking you, but just wanted to let you know we'll be going through a little turbulence. Won't be much, but for safety will you please fasten your seat belts and hold on." I fasten my seat belt and hear groans of displeasure and grouchy passengers muttering to themselves. I smile a little and turn to Jason.
"I hate turbulence. I always think that we're going to drop out the sky or something." he smiles understandingly and clasps my shoulder.
"Dont worry. I'll protect you from the bad bad turbulence." he says like a mom would tell her child who thinks there's a monster in their closet. I narrow my eyes and elbow him in the arm. He doesn't seem affected so I sigh and he looks at me in amusement.
"Shut up." I say.
"This is your captain speaking, we'll be approaching the turbulence." Says the pilot. Jason smirks and holds on to my arm.
"Oh no! Watch out Melody! Here comes the terrible turbulence!" he looks panicked and I flick him in the arm.
"Get off you barbarian." he snickers and lets me go. Suddenly, the plane starts shaking violently and dips to the left side. Screams emit from everyone on the plane. I'm squished against Jason and the man that was in the aisle next to mine grabs onto me for support. The plane suddenly dips farther, and a piece of luggage above the aisle next to mine comes crashing out of its upper compartment and right towards me. I squeeze my eyes shut, and throw my arms out as a shield. I wait for impact, but none comes. I open my eyes and see Jasons strong tan arms holding the suitcase and dropping it to the floor. I turn to him and silently mouth 'thank-you' because I can't talk. I'm to terrified. Jason acknowledges my fear and hugs me to his chest. I bury my head in his shoulder and hope it's all a dream.
"What is happening?!" says Jason.
(Pilots P.O.V five minutes ago)
I gently release the clutch and check all the engines. Everything's a go. My co-pilot shifts his control and I look out to the dark, clear night. I see a shape moving towards us. I squint my eyes, trying to get a better look. I widen my eyes in surprise and start to tilt the plane left, trying to avoid the bird flying straight towards the right engine. We hit the turbulence and the plane starts to shake violently. My co-pilot is holding his control stick tightly, trying to stop its jerky movements and keep us on track. There's nothing we can do though. I realize that and look to my left and pale instantly. A whole flock of birds is heading to our left engine. I try to dip right, but can't because of the pressure of winds and turbulence. The birds get sucked into the engine and I wince as the engine explodes. We start to tilt down towards the ocean, and I try my best to pull us up, but to no avail. I see a island up ahead and I make my way to it. Maybe I can land there and get the passengers out safely. I faintly hear the screams of the terrified people and am even more determined to save them. We barrel towards the island, full speed, when we make it out of turbulence and I can slow down the plane. I close my eyes and brace for impact as we barrel closer and closer to the ever growing bigger island.
