"I'm meeting Steve at his work, sorry I can't join you to talk to Suzie from Utah" I tell him apologetically

"That's fine. Tell Steve I said hello" He called back, too excited about talking to his girlfriend.

"Tell Suzie I said hello!" I yelled and he held his thumb up as an okay, to which I laugh and shake my head.

I make my way to the mall and pass every family and store on the way to Steves work where I see him in the window talking to customers at the counter, as they leave I make my way inside to see Robin holding a whiteboard with Steve facing her.

"I am telling you, it's this stupid hat. It's totally blowing my best feature." I heard Steve say as I approached the counter

"And that is?" I say loudly and he turns around quickly with an awkward smile

"Hazel! Hey babe!" He calls and I give him a look

"Hi Steve. What's that all about?" I ask pointing at the whiteboard Robing had been holding pretending to be upset.

"Oh that? This ol' thing?!" He asked back to me and Robin rolled her eyes

"I bet he couldn't make a single conversation last with anyone without talking about himself" Robin explained and I nodded my head

"He sucks" She finished pointing towards his six tally marks on the You Suck side of the board

"Ohh, I see. And how many of those conversations were spoken with men?" I ask leaning on the counter top, Robin slightly laughed adding another tally on the You Suck side.

"Hazel. Babe, It was all Robins idea" Steve tried to poorly explain and I started laughing

"Steve. I'm kidding." I tell him and I tug on his uniforms tie and pull him in for a kiss. Once I pull away from my kiss with a smiling Steve, I notice Robin had taken off one tally for You Suck and put it on the You Rule side.

"But if you ever do flirt with any girls that aren't me.." I finish with a small threatening smirk and he stands wide eyed

"How about some ice cream!" He says pulling off his work hat and I nod my head.

"One scoop of Mint chocolate chip, please" I say with a smile pulling out my money and Steve glides over to scoop it for me

"One scoop of Mint Chocolate chip for the beautiful lady" He said handing me my ice cream cone

"Thank you" I respond with a smile and hand him my money which he places in the cash register.

"Soo how is work?" I ask and lick my ice cream

"Boring. Robin hasn't done anything, she keeps making me scoop all of it, i'm gonna get tennis elbow" He said and Robin threw his hat back at his head

"Whoops" she said rolling her eyes

"Oh I bet." I tell him laughing

"Dustin said hey by the way, he is trying to connect with his girlfriend over a radio he made" I inform him

"Girlfriend!?" He yelled hitting the table

"Yeah, that's what I said" I told him

"Atta boy. So what's her name?" He asked in amazement

"Suzie. She's a mormon from Utah." I tell him and he widens his eyes

"She's a merman" He asked confused and I lower my head with a small laugh

"She said mormon you dingus" Robin informed cleaning the ice cream scoops

"Oh right yeah, of course." He said and I shook my head

"Anyway, so yeah he's probably atop a hill trying to communicate with her right now." I explain again and he nods his head

"I'm glad you don't live in Utah" He says and I smile at him

"Well don't worry i'm not going anywhere anytime soon." I reassure him and he smiles sadly

"And what about college?" He asked sadly

"Steve. I already told you. I'm taking a year off" I explained

"Yeah no I know. Just if you change your mind it's okay." He said looking down tapping his hand on the glass

"I'm not gonna change my mind. I chose to take a year off" I explain and he nods his head

"Steve" Robin called pointing towards the kids waiting to the right of us in line for ice-cream

"Yeah, yeah I know" Steve said and made his way over to the person to take their order.

"Hey, Steve i'll call you later." I tell him as he makes his way towards me and he kisses me quick.

"Alright, talk to you later. Love you" He said and I feel my eyes go wide and I notice his do too

"I-Uhh" He says and I stand there knowing how I want to respond but i'm not able too. Before I can say anything Steve makes his way back to the counter and goes behind in the back, so I make my way out of the mall, my mind still focusing on what Steve had said to me. Once I got to my vehicle I sat there thinking it over

"God am I an idiot? Why didn't I say it back?!" I argue with myself as I rest my head on the steering wheel

"Nice one, Henderson. Your first boyfriend ever says I love you and you stand there? Great move" I say regretting my choice before starting my vehicle and heading home.
