The door swung open at once. A tall, black-haired witch in emerald-green robes stood there. She had a very stern face and (M/N) thought she was familiar to him, like he saw her in some photos of her mother old days in Hogwarts.

"The firs' years, Professor McGonagall," said the Giant. 'So this is Minnie.' (M/N) thought, when he finally remembered the name.
"Thank you, Hagrid. I will take them from here."
She pulled the door wide. The entrance hall was so big, that you could put the 12 Grimmauld Place in it. The stone walls were lit with flaming torches like the ones at Gringotts, the ceiling was too high up to make out, and a magnificent marble staircase facing them led to the upper floors.

They followed Minnie across the flagged stone floor. (M/N) could hear the drone of hundreds of voices from s doorway to the right----the rest of the school must already be here----but Minnie showed the first years into a small, empty chamber off the hall. They crowded in, most staying away from (M/N), standing rather close together than they would usually have done, peering about nervously.

"Welcome to Hogwarts," said Minnie, "The start-of-term banquet will began shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your Houses. The sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your House will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your House dormitory, and spend free time in your House common room.

"The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each House has it's own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your House points, while any rule-breaking will lose House points. At the end of the year, the House with the most House points is awarded the House Cup, a great honor. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever House becomes yours.
"The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting."
Her eyes lingered for a moment on the plump kid cloak, then switched over to different students, until they landed on (M/N)'s eyes. When both eyes meet, her eyes widened for a split second, then looked over other students.

"I shall return when we are ready for you," said Minnie. "Please wait."
She left the chamber. (M/N) began to hum quietly.

"Is the sorting going to be a test?" Questioned a person next to (M/N) on his right.
Filching, he turned to his right, and there, standing beside him was the plump boy. "Aren't you from a pure-blood family?" (M/N) questioned him, making said boy jump, not expecting anyone to answer. "W-well my gran never really t-told me any thing important, b-besides what to expect." The plump kid replied. Humming, (M/N) said, "A hat." Making the kid look at him, with a face of confusion. "A-a hat?" He question the tall kid next to him. "We will be sorted by a hat, they will place the hat on our head." (M/N) explained more, making the kid say, "Oh," and nod slowly.

"I-I'm Neville, N-Neville L-Longbottom." Neville said shyly, making (M/N) smile brightly. "Black, (M/N) Black as they call me." He said happily, not noticing the bright blush on Neville's face. As they continued to talk, they noticed something was happening, Neville, looking in front, jumped about a foot in the air---making (M/N) give a head tilt---several people behind and in front of them screamed.

"What the Hell----?"

He gasped. So did the people around them. About twenty ghosts had just streamed through the back wall. Pearly-white and slightly transparent, they glided across the room talking to one another and hardly glancing at the first years. They seemed to be arguing.
Rolling his eyes, (M/N) turned and saw that Neville was pale white, looking like he was about to pass out. "Neville?" (M/N) said, trying to get his attention, which he succeed. "Are you about to pass out?" He asked him, making said boy shake his head. "Well, if you need anything, just tell me." (M/N) told him, now going back to looking in the front, only to noticed that Minnie was there.
