People say
everything's still beautiful,
still pleasing, still normal,
as long as you get to taste
sugar in it.

Villains and heroes,
friends and foes,
the good and the bad.
Books don't seem
too exaggerated after all.

"You look fragile," she said, "sweetie."

She paused,
good intentions,
for a while.
She smiled,
good intentions,
and said,

"As innocent as the nipa hut
in your first storybook's cover."

Walking and talking
(with anyone)
mightn't be so tiring;
it starts to feel heavy
on my shoulders.

Now, Mrs. Fate says,
"You ought to let
people know
about the good news;
it might be false.
Give society hope.
It might be false."

And I heard
a whisper
I knew
none of them
said:

I'll make a villain out of you.

I didn't get a chance
to put a cape around me;
it feels just so heavy
on my shoulders.

It was the angelic beast.
