This is really short, so I decided to upload it right after the prologue. I don't really know where I got the idea from, but I like it, so I think I'm gonna stick with it. Enjoy.

CHAPTER ONE

(Three Years Earlier)

I moaned and rolled over; the sick feeling was still in my stomach. Sometimes it almost felt as if I was getting better, but then I'd be leaning over the toilet minutes later. My stomach started rolling, and I put a hand over my mouth to keep my food down. It was nine in the morning, on a Saturday. Usually I would be asleep, and wouldn't wake until noon, but lately I haven't been getting any sleep. My eyes snapped open, and for the second time that morning I found myself bolting for the bathroom connected to my bedroom.

I barely made it to the toilet before the contents of my stomach came back for a visit. I moaned again before collapsing onto the coolness of the tiled floor. "Mom..." I half moaned, half yelled. With my ear pressed to the floor, I was able to clearly hear the pounding of running feet on the stairs.

"Honey," came my mother's worried voice from the doorway. "It's still happening Mom. No matter what I eat, no matter how often, I keep throwing up. I haven't slept properly in days," I replied. My voice was slightly muffled because my face was still pressed to the floor. I heard her sigh. "Get back in bed sweetie. I'll warm you up some special cinnamon apple cider, and then I'll make an appointment for you to see the doctor." At the mention of cinnamon, I felt my stomach turn again, and I quickly pulled my head up off the ground and over the toilet bowl to vomit. "It's a miracle there's anything left in my stomach," I grumbled.

I wiped my mouth on a piece of toilet paper, threw it in the toilet, and flushed. Then I brushed my teeth thoroughly until I was sure I didn't have puke breath. I slowly crawled back in bed, careful not to lie too much on my stomach.

My mom came back in carrying a mug in one hand, and phone in the other. "Drink this," she said. "I made an appointment for twelve o'clock, so you need to be ready by 11:30." I nodded, taking the mug that she handed to me. I put the steaming mug under my nose, and inhaled. I had to quickly swallow so that I wouldn't vomit at the putrid smell. She nodded and left, closing the door behind her. I set the mug on the table beside my bed. I don't know what's wrong with me, I thought. I usually love her warm apple cider, so why does it make me gag now? It's not like it smells any differently...

I closed my eyes, hoping that I could at least get another hour of sleep squeezed in before the appointment. Surprisingly, I managed to drift off after only a few minutes. I woke again at 11 for a quick dash to the bathroom, and started getting ready after I was done.
