She pulled away. Resting her forehead against his. Quickly looking away as her tears creeped their way down her cheeks.
"Stef." He grabbed her hand. "It won't always be this hard."
"Starting to look like that." She sighed.
"I love you." He said simply. Wanting to get through to her. She's the one he loves. He knows she loves him too. He knows it.
"Don't." She cried. "Please don't say that."
"You're not happy with him Stef. Look at you. You wouldn't be sat here broken, if you were happy with him."
"There's more to it then that Bradley. And you know there is. In our world, there's much much more than just whether you're happy or not." His silence urged her to continue. "It's press, rumours, the movie.. god the movie isn't even finished, and me leaving my fiancé midst rumours would make it all about that and not the movie. It's not simple. My happiness isn't the most important right now."
"Your happiness is always the most important."
"You can say that all you want, but the facts are that for now, my happiness is to take the back seat if we want these rumours to die and if we want the focus of the movie, to be what it should be, and that's the movie. Not our personal lives."
She was right. But he would risk everyone for her if it meant she went to sleep every night with a smile on her face. He wish she knew that.
"Do you love him?" He asked. It took a lot to ask that. Since their last conversation, she made that so perfectly clear.
"Of course I don't fucking love him." She almost laughed. As if to say, is it not obvious.
"But you said-
"Yeah Bradley I said that. I said it because I thought it'd make this easier. What did you want me to do, break down in tears and tell you I love you? We're not those people. We don't tell each other we love each other and go home to different people. That's not fair to anyone."
"At least we're communicating now." He lightly joked, making her roll her eyes, laughing lightly with a nod.
"There's a start."
"Can we go back to normal. The past few days have been horrible. I just want my best friend back." Bradley asked. Although he wanted her as much more than a best friend.
"Me too. We can go back to best friends who are secretly in love with each other. That was fun." She said sarcastically.
"Too soon." He laughed. She placed her hand on his. Squeezing it. He pulled her in for a hug. Kissing the top of her head.
Today said a lot for the pair. They both know each other's true feelings, but they both know, right now nothing can be done about that. It was over. Love never was easy. Both accepting they have to endure the relationships they were tied to now.
"See you tonight yeah?" She asked, as he stood up. Tonight they had an actors in Hollywood event.
"Yeah see you tonight." He smiled. Still finding it hard to hide the pain in his eyes. And then he was gone. And she finally could breathe. She sat down on the sofa, her face falling into her hands. Finally leaving out the much needed cry, she held for their whole conversation. God, she was so in love with him.
Sarah came rushing in. Having sat in her car the entire time waiting for him to leave so she could come in and see if she was okay.
"Stef?"
Stefani looked up at her. Sarah hated seeing her like this. So broken, so upset. At the end of the day, she was just a girl, in love, with someone she shouldn't be in love with.
