The clear skies of pure cerulean blue reflected on the wings of the plane as Eva looked out from her spot at the window seat. Obviously, she had won the rock-paper-scissors battle against Dalia, her best friend. After having known one another since the first grade, they found that the best way to solve an easy problem was with a rock-paper-scissors match. When it came to the hard problems, that was a whole other story.
The sun beamed its way into the small enclosure of the plane and onto Eva's face. Warmth spread along every crevice of her face and she soaked in every bit of it. Soon, the window was slammed shut my an arm that reached across Eva's body; one that indubitably belonged to Dahlia.
Eva swiveled her head to look at Dahlia and gave her an annoyed stare.
"Dude, it was way too bright." Dahlia shrugged nonchalantly, "Some people are trying to sleep here." She motioned in an extravagant way all around her face to showcase that she was the "people" she spoke of.
Dahlia quickly turned her head down and closed her eyes so she could sleep in peace. Finally, she would not have the horrible sun glaring into her face as she attempted a relaxing sleep before arriving at their destination. Puerto Rico. Also known as Eva's ancestral home.
Eva looked at the sleeping form of Dahlia and wondered how she was able to fall asleep so fast. And how she was snoring already. She then huffed in annoyance at the fact and scrunched her nose. She had gotten a headache. Immediately she pinned the cause to her high ass ponytail that sat upon her head. The ponytail pulled her hair down due to gravity, the bitch. Therefore, she had a headache of immense pain. Eva pulled on her hair tie until it came loose, letting her dark brown hair cascade down her shoulders.
While attempting a sexy shake out, she whipped Dahlia right in the face, luckily it did not wake her up. Eva stuffed her fist into her mouth, trying to hide a small giggle. It didn't really matter anyway. A little giggle would not have woken that girl up. Almost nothing did.
Well, almost nothing.
"Everyone please get in your seats and fasten your seatbelts, we are experiencing minor turbulence." One of the flight attendants announced via the intercom. "And there is no need to worry," she added hastily, a tell-tale sign that there was indeed something to worry about. However, that was something that was clear to any psychology major like Eva.
Dahlia woke once the turbulence began, clearly panicked. She never did like flying. Eva was attempting to calm her friend, reassuring her that all was going to work itself out in the end. It would, wouldn't it?
Dahlia had sporadic breathing at that point, it was slow and calmed one second, then insanely fast and unnatural the other. Eva didn't know what else to do, she had tried every one of Dahlia's coping techniques already. The only option left was to pop open her meds and make her swallow it. So that is exactly what she did.
Even after swallowing the pill as Eva commanded, Dahlia teared up and still felt immense pain in her chest. It would take a while to kick in.
In the meantime, Dahlia was kept distracted by Eva's games on her phone. Suddenly, Eva felt her stomach drop, hard. The plane lurched forward as did its passengers. Screams were heard from the few children on board as mothers clutched babies to their chests and flight attendants grabbed onto something nearby to keep steady. It became a flurry of panicked voices and yelling, something Dahlia clearly could not deal with.
All the while Dahlia had an anxiety attack, Eva tried to keep herself calm during this crisis. Eva checked her phone to see where they were as if that would clear things up. Her phone, however, went haywire and began fizzing out.
Eva already knew where they were.
Bermuda Triangle.
It sounded cliche, but that was where they were headed through and that is where things started to act up. Perhaps they had gone too close to it that it caused this horrible mess. All they needed to do was escape from the hellhole and they would be safe. That's what she had to tell herself anyways.
