Goku had nothing to his name but the clothing on his back, and a few hundred Zeni that he had earn doing jobs around town. He sat in the main room of my apartment, fiddling with the books on my small bookshelf, touching the little ornaments I had placed on the window sill. I watched him through the kitchen doorway as I prepared some iced tea and biscuits for the both of us. I grinned to myself. He was very innocent for an older guy, trained in martial arts. He caught me watching and smiled sheepishly as he put the ornament he had been fiddling with back in its place, like a cat caught trying to knock something off the side. I looked away, and I heard him sigh and sit down on my creaky sofa. I called out to him to be careful, the legs where well on their way out and someone heavier than me might break it if they sat down too heavily. Too late, I heard a crack and a small surprised yell as I walked into the main room with the beverages.

He apologised, then sat on the broken end awkwardly. We laughed and chatted aimlessly for about an hour, before he asked me about my parents. I'd brushed upon the subject before, but I guess he had a natural curiosity to know more. I started to vent to him, as he perched on the ground in front of me, resting his cheek on his hand. He didn't interrupt me, throughout my rant, until I started to choke up on the memory of my mother loosing her life right in front of me, when he got on his knees and wrapped his arms around me.

"Its all over now. One day you'll get to give that man what he deserves.." he whispered to me, halting my tears. He held me close, and my heart beat slowed from frantic to a slow, sleep like state, as I buried my face in his neck, my tears drying against his skin. He began to fiddle with my hair a little, stroking it, feeling it between his fingers. Eventually he sighed, and gently pushed me away.

"Feeling better now, (Y\N)?" his cheeks where flushed and his normally relaxed brow was furrowed as if he where perplexed.

"What's wrong? You look confused." I said, rubbing my now red nose.

He shook his head frantically, returning to his normal, easy going grin.

"You just made me think about my problems for a moment, that's all."

He stood up and dusted himself off, taking our now empty cups to the kitchen for me. I smiled, it was a sweet gesture.

He waltzed back in and smiled at me.

"I have a secret. You told me your past lemme tell you mine..."
