"The cool thing about Halloween is that it's a uniquely American Holiday. I mean, despite its obvious origins in the Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian All Saints Day, it really is a melting pot of various immigrants' traditions and beliefs.
It became a little more commercialized in the 1950s with Trick-or-Treat, and today, it rivals only Christmas in terms of popularity." I'm so excited I can't help but ramble on and on as Emily takes a seat at the table next to Rossi. Morgan is sat next to Rossi and he's watching us.
"All I asked was what he was doing this weekend." She says in a tone I can't really decipher but I think it's a bit irritable.
"You know, I'm toying with the notion of either going to the Edgar Allen shadow puppet theatre, or the reenactment of the 19th century phantasmagoria."
"I don't want to know." Rossi starts as Penelope walks in but I'm sure he does!
"Oh, yeah you do. Phantasmagoria's are these amazing priest cinemas in France where the showmans' are using science magic. And- it just so happens that I have an extra ticket." The smile on my face widens and does not falter when Penelope says-
"Tempting." She passes out the case files as Hotch walks in.
"You want Halloween? I'll give you a real terror. How about a real life werewolf? Or more like, a human being crazy enough to hang out with them." Penelope looks around the table, eyes on the remote control she holds in her hands.
This seems serious. I flip through the flies she handed us and I'm stunned. Pictures of dead bodies: decapitation, missing hearts, missing lungs, savage and brutal animalistic attacks, drownings, paralyzing?
I read down and catch the word Stiles written over a hundred times just in the first two pages.
"What's a Stiles and how do I Profile it?" I couldn't help but ask.
Derek laughs, throws his head back and all, "Leave it to Reid to lighten up such a heavy mood."
"Stiles is a person, a kid in his late 20's who goes to the trainee school about an hour drive from here." Hotch passes me the tablet he held in his hands and I'm all but confused.
The picture is of a guy looking out the window in a classroom filled with other people in the same clothes. He has fingers in his mouth, chewing his nails with his glasses slipping down his nose.
"How do we know for sure he's the unsub?"
"We don't, this is what the cops had and our job is to confirm or deny the claim. This kid has been placed on the scene of 45 different murders. The local police have been on this case for a while but it just crossed state lines, hence why we're needed. The first murder being when he just 8 years old, his mothers death." My mouth falls slack. I've heard terrible things while working this job, but a child committing murder always chills the bone.
"M. Stilinski was born and raised in a town called Beacon Hills, California. His father, Noah Stilinski, was and still is the current sheriff of the town. His mother, as we know, was murdered in her death bed.
Her brain was already deteriorating of frontotemporal dementia when she was overdosed with morphine. All evidence points towards murder, the murderer was never found.
When he turned 16, he just so happened to come upon the dead body of Laura Hale-"
"Wait- Hale? Beacon Hills? This is Derek Hale's sister we're talking about? The werewolf that was recently under investigation for the murder of his whole family?" Wow, that can't be a coincidence.
"Precisely. It gets even stranger when you find out that the only reason Derek was found not guilty, was because Stilinski somehow got on the case and found evidence against the charges placed on Derek." J.J puts in.
"Whoa- can we just call him Hale? I'm getting the creeps over here." Morgan shakes his head and runs his hands up and down his arms.
I ignore him.
"He also backed Hale up when the case of Laura's murder was first open, but that was only after he claimed Der- Hale had been the one to kill her." Prentiss stated.
"Stilinski is smart. He took an IQ test right after he graduated high school and scored a perfect 185." My eyes reached my hairline, the guy is smart, only two points below me.
"During the span of Freshman through senior year Stilinski has five tickets for speeding and had been on the receiving end of a restraining order. He also had been placed on the scene of twenty different murders. It's all in the files." Penelope says the last of her words like she might just gag if we open the files infront of her.
She continues to go into detail about the group of friends he associated himself with and his behavior at school. She mentions the fact that he is close to multiple different Alpha werewolves and has been affiliated with powerful organizations. I listen intently while looking over the multiple different murder cases where his name pops up.
Some of these are brutal and animalistic, they look more like a supernatural type of kill and not human but all the evidence points to him and his involvement. The main thing that bothers me has to be that the only thing these murders have in common is him.
Some of these murders look ritualistic, some are drownings and others slaughters. How can one person cause so much damage? Is this guy even actually human? I take a closer look at his picture and stare at him.
He looks harmless and soft. Really soft.
"He's been diagnosed with ADHD and Anxiety, both of which he takes medicine for. He's extremely persuasive and persistent and annoying, said by others and not by me- sir."
She continues to talk while I stare down the picture of him, examining everything I could from the picture. He has brown hair, eye color can't really be seen well but I imagine their bright, he has a button nose and moles scattered across his face and neck. Sharp edges with soft features and long lashes, pink full lips.
"Reid?" I look up to see Rossi staring me down, a slightly amused look on his face. In fact, they are all looking at me that way, amused and confused and a little worried.
It confuses me.
"Yes?"
"Well, while you stared down the picture on your tablet, we came up with the conclusion that a definite profile can't be placed on him. Too many things contradict about the cases, we need to speak with him because it's possible he's working with a team." Derek says this and then stares at me. I'm still confused as to what was amusing about this to respond right away.
"We wanted to know what you think we should do?" J.J says it slowly, and I put the confusion asides to answer them.
"Well if he's working in a group, he's the brain. Take the brain away and the group falls apart, I think it's best to do just that. You want to talk to him face to face but there's no way he'd answer all of our questions seriously if we ask him nicely. So we arrest him."
