I always hate going first. First in line, not me. I mean, of course, I know that if you go first you get stuff over with.
I was first, before my twin, to come into the world. I always hate when people ask us whose older. I am, but I don't want to be. People think that it's an achievement, being the older twin. I hate that people know that I was first, first to be born into this cruel world. If I could have been second I would have been, believe me.
Knowing that you were first, diving head first into a world of lies, it's unbelievable. I never like to go first.
My sister, on the other hand, liked being first. She was the first to walk, to speak, to have her first kiss, and to get her driver's license, and because of that, people thought she was better.
Being twin sisters sometimes meant that people compared us, in everyone's eyes, Wendi was better than me. Of course, Wendi doesn't think that anyone thinks she better than me, that's just another thing we don't see eye to eye on. We don't agree on much, not music, academics, sports, even boys.
It's hard to see eye to eye with someone you've known since before you were born. Being a twin is hard, I've had to do it for almost seventeen years.
"Skylar!" My twin sister yelled through the wall that both our bedrooms shared. Speak of the she-devil. I ran into her room.
"Yes?" I said and looked around her room. Our rooms had relatively the same setup, but where she had her giant, makeup holding vanity, I had an overflowing desk and an art easel.
"Happy Birthday!" She exclaimed, hugging me. She never hugged me. Did I mention that it was my Birthday? Well, it was.
"Thanks," I said, hugging her back. "Happy Birthday to you too!"
"I want to be the first to give you a birthday present. I thought I would give you your present now since we both have plans after school." She said, grabbing a blue-pink polka-dot gift behind her. There she goes about being first.
"Wait, let me get your present," I said and ran back to my room, Wendi followed me. I grabbed her present, it was in the same wrapping paper as my present. I went into the hall, where Wendi was waiting for me. "
"Here," I said. We exchanged gifts. I always love unwrapping presents, who doesn't. I unwrapped the gift to find a new set of paints. My sister unwrapped her gift to find her brand new pink polaroid camera.
"Oh my Gosh, Skylar. I wanted one of these!"
"I know! And I needed new paint. Thank you!" I remarked.
"Oh, look at the time. We don't want to be late for school on our birthday. You still need to get dressed."
"Yeah."
After close consideration of what I should wear, I decided to wear my favorite black jeans, a soft blue plaid button-up shirt, and black converse. After all, my top priority was to be comfortable for my birthday. I looked at myself in the mirror, my twin and I were born with blonde hair. We went to the salon a few months ago, I dyed my hair blue, my sister got her hair cut to her shoulders. Now she has newly cut blonde hair that looks infinitely better than what I did to my hair. I combed through my blue hair, catching a few knots, but nothing I couldn't handle. I looked at my final look.
"Well, this is as good as it gets," I said, sighing and grabbing my backpack. I go down the stairs and am met with the smell of waffles, my favorite.
"How is my other seventeen-year-old daughter?" My mom asked, sitting next to Wendi, who is eating pancakes, her favorite.
"I'm good, tired, but excited," I exclaimed.
"Is Lou still picking you up, Skylar?" My dad asked, behind me, at the kitchen counter.
"Yep, is Haper still picking you up, Wendi?" I answered, sitting down.
"You know she is, speaking of which she should be here any minute," Wendi said, getting up. She went over to the front and looked out the window. "Yes, she here."
"See you a school," I said, dumping fruit on my waffles.
"Bye, sweetie." My parents both said.
"Bye" And with that Wendi skipped ou the front door to Harper Elwood's car. Harper Elwood was Wendi's best friend, since freshman year, and my enemy. Not that Harper or Wendi know that. Harper has been really mean to me since we first met. If my life was a movie, she'd be the mean girl. My sister, of course, is her trusty blonde sidekick. I finished my breakfast when I heard the doorbell ring. My dad got the door and on the other side of the door stood my best friend and crush, Louis Moore.
"Ready to go Sky?" He asked, smiling. God his smile was infectious.
"You bet I am!" I said, smiling back at him. I was ready to continue this amazing birthday I was having and go to school. But boy, was I in for a day.
