Roy's POV
It was the best of times and the worst that Monday. The day I met the love of my life. I had woken up in a cold sweat. I had slept in, so I had to rush to school. I forgot my binder and my bag that day, and I arrived at school 10 minutes late. My teacher scolded me. As I walked to my desk, I noticed someone gazing longingly into my eyes. I looked over and it was a new girl. Our eyes locked. At that moment I thought she looked at me in disgust. I instantly looked away in shame. I sat down to start my French quiz. I only had 15 minutes to finish it. I rushed through the quiz, never looking up. I was pretty good at French, but I wanted to keep my mark above 99%. I turned to the second page and looked up. I saw the same kid looking at me still. Strange, I thought to myself and looked back at my page.
"Time's up! Time for Language!" Mme. Jarvis began coming around collecting the quizzes.
"Can I finish? I only have one question left." I was rushing. Mme. Jarvis didn't say anything, but walked past instead. I quickly finished the last question and ran to the door. I was already late for Language, so I sprinted through the halls and to the staircase. I stopped to push the door, but I saw that new kid walking in the other direction. I ignored her and kept running until I got to the classroom.
"You're late! Get to your seat, Roy!" I walked to my table in shame and sat down. "Did you see Emma on your way up?", asked Mrs. Olsen. I thought about it, but I decided that the trouble wasn't worth it for this Emma kid.
"No, Mrs. Olsen, I didn't see her." I instantly felt guilty, but I didn't want to get in trouble.
"Go and get her, EJ." I opened my book and began reading. A few minutes later, Emma walked into class. Her eyes widened when she saw me. I quickly looked away, feeling guilty about our previous encounter. She walked to Mrs. Olsen and she began talking to her. From her expression, it wasn't good. Mrs. Olsen turned to me, frowning.
"Roy! Emma says she saw you run past her going the wrong direction." I panicked when she said this. I quickly thought of an excuse.
"Sorry Mrs. Olsen, I didn't recognize Emma because she's a new kid. I thought she was from a different class." I saw the face she gave me and I shrunk into my seat, feeling terrible. Emma sat down in an isolated seat and began staring at me. I was pretty sure she hated me by now after running past her and lying that I didn't recognize her.
