Looking at myself in the mirror I try to make my hair look as good as possible. Today is my first day of sixth form so my hair and I need to make a good impression. This will be my second time in sixth form– yes second. No I'm not going crazy I'm just a vampire in a new town. By that I mean my family had to move out of our old one because someone figured out who we were. Luckily for us everyone thought they were a nutjob so we didn't get run out of town by pitchforks but if that one person tried their hardest. The school I'm going to wants their students to look smart so I'm wearing grey trousers and a black shirt. If I could I would wear a white one but last time that happened I spilt blood down it. To be honest I wish I could not do sixth form again. Unlike a lot of vampires I'm considered young at the ripe age of twenty two however I got turned when I was seventeen.
Running down the stairs realising I'm going to be late if I don't hurry, I'd gotten near the bottom but suddenly tipped, falling arse over tit.
"Shit," I mumbled under my breath whilst lifting myself from the floor scratching my chin. Damn carpet burns, but underneath my fingers I can feel the wound healing by the second.
"Alexander, are you okay?" My dad called out as I brushed my hands down my clothes.
"Yeah dad I'm fine," I replied feeling stupid and slightly embarrassed.
"Aren't vampires supposed to move with grace and elegance?" My little sister Audrey remarked walking past me with an astounding amount of poise. She's new to being a vampire but she acts like she's been around for hundreds of years. Audrey turned around eight months ago and joined us six months ago. My parents technically aren't my parents nor Audreys. Vampires can't have kids in a typical way and it all depends on bloodlines etc. So my parents were not able to go out searching for young vampires. Which is where they came across me, freshly turnt and having no idea what to do. But for me that was years ago so I'm used to my life now– preferring not to think about what my life used to be like. However, a cool thing about being twenty two although looking seventeen means my ID allows me to buy alcohol. Vampires can drink but it needs to be mixed in with blood and only certain alcohols, it also affects us way more than expected because it mixes into our bloodstream straight away. Though that does mean possible vampire alcoholics are on the rise.
"Aren't vampires supposed to move with grace," I mimicked in a high pitched voice moving my hand open and closed.
"Shut up," She retorted, flicking her long black hair over her shoulder.
I let my fangs slide through my gums letting out a hiss.
She rolled her eyes in return and went out the door. Unlike me, my sister has already found her mate, I can't help but feel a little jealous of her because of that. I've been waiting way longer than her. Okay so I'm still a pretty new vampire but still the fact that she found her mate a month ago doesn't sit right with me. I know its jealousy or the fact that he is a way older vamp than her but we're not supposed to question the mating bond. Not that that's stopped me from dating in the past. I've had quite a few girlfriends and boyfriends; not at the same time though, I'm not into that. In my last sixth form I had a girlfriend for a few months but it didn't feel special. Yes I had a crush on her but it was just like when I was human. We ended up breaking up though because I had a situationship with her brother a year prior. In my defence I had no idea they were related. It actually ended up being her best friend who figured out my family's secret but everyone thought she was telling lies because mine and her best friend broke up. As my sister is still a fresh vampire she's only allowed to leave the house to see her mate because he's a vampire. You can get mated with other supernatural beings but it's incredibly rare.
My dad came out the other room in his sleek black business suit. He's a lawyer, meaning he knows all the ways to cheat the system. It's been hard to get fake ID's 100% correct for decades. He adjusted his tie looking at me "First day at sixth form."
"Yeah this time, I'll have to do it all over again in a few years," I remarked with a slight smirk. It isn't that I don't like school--well I don't--but it's only because I've been through it already; If I could fall asleep during class I would.
"Yes but it keeps us young," he replied with a small grin. My mum and dad are still working out how to stay in a place as long as possible but with the porcelain unaging skin it's difficult. By now my dad should have slight smile lines but instead he's forever stuck at thirty, so is my mum. Everyone acts as if as soon as you turn thirty you have one foot in the grave but my parents look youthful as ever even though they're technically in their 300s.
"True, but I just want to find my mate and get out of this cycle," I admit looking at my father.
"You will, I'm sure she's out there somewhere," he replied with a small smile. I know my dad hopes that my mate is a woman but he also knows that although very rare there is a slight possibility that they could be male. He doesn't hate me for being bi or anything just has trouble grasping it. My mum and dad are over three hundred years old and have always wanted kids so there's no doubt that they love me. They did adopt human children over two hundred years ago but the pain of losing them was too much so when they decided to have kids again they went searching for me. They also requested to be called mum and dad which healed some part of my inner child.
"Or he," I add feeling a little timid. My dad and I had only just gotten to a good place with my sexuality around one year ago so it's still a little bit of a touchy subject. I've looked through the records of all queer supernatural creatures and the last known one was a fae and a vampire around one hundred years ago, as well as them being gay it's also quite rare to mate with someone thats not the same kind though humans have been mated to quite a lot of us. The rarest and most looked down on is vampires and werewolves as we're sworn enemies, not that I've ever been able to be in the presence of one.
"Or he, you're right. Anyway you never know we've just moved so maybe you'll find them here. It's no rush you have your whole... umm afterlife ahead of you." His dad grinned, lighting up the whole room. There was something about someone being around so long and still being able to smile that amazed me. I only hope that I can be half as happy in that many years. Don't get me wrong I know he has gone through literal lifetimes of hardships but I'll always look up to him.

After saying goodbye to my parents I started to make my way to school. Looking down trying to decipher what google maps says i'm getting more aware of how late I'm going to be. Usually I would've scoped out the way to school before going there but didn't have time with all the unpacking. We managed to unpack in the two days we were here due to our vamp speed. Though my sister wasn't much help because she was always texting her mate. Rushing the rest of the way I head to the front office which was luckily right by the door.
The woman at the office chastises me for being late and hands me my timetable. She said that usually they'd get collected in form group, but, as I missed it I just needed to go to the first lesson. Looking down at my timetable I see that my first lesson is art and work out where the classroom is. Heading to the stairwell I start climbing up the stairs. Once I'm about halfway up the stairs I notice someone is panting next to me. Seeing how fatigued he is I realise I should too.
Vampires can fake breathing but it's a little uncomfortable kind of like when you're a human and have a sore throat. Trying to keep my pace down I also fake heavy breathing. The human next to me seemed to look relieved that I was showing exertion so he definitely noticed. Great, it's my first day and I'm already messing up.
When I finally get upstairs, I make my way to a free seat by the back of the class and apologise to the teacher. She gave me a stern glare and said that this is not the best of first impressions. I crumble into my seat pulling the designated sketch book towards me. That's when I smell something odd. It's not exactly unpleasant but puts my nerves on edge. Goosebumps line my arms as I try to figure out what this musky animalistic smell is. That's when I finally figured it out, it's a werewolf. My family and I moved into a town with werewolves, did they know? They don't seem like they would move somewhere with them– our sworn enemies– if they'd know. My mind rakes my brain of the scarce information I know. But one thing is for sure there are werewolves in this town. Raising my head I notice he is staring at me.
A werewolf is staring at me.
Shit
