Let's get one thing clear before we begin.

I don't believe in ghost stories, or fairytales. I don't believe in Santa, and I never have. I don't believe in the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, or any of that nonsense.

And I most definitely, above all, did not believe in a zombie apocalypse.

Until is showed up on my front door.

I'm Raini Anne Daphne, but you can call be Rai. I have two brothers and three sisters. Their names are Mavis, Lori, Charlie, Leroy, and Clara. All younger than me. I'm the oldest at seventeen. I have a boyfriend, Logan Carson Gail. He has two brothers, Brandon is older and Lucien is younger.

I was a fairly typical high schooler. I was finishing my Junior year when the incident occurred. I never would've expected it. Maybe Brandon and Lucien did, they always played zombie games when I came over. Logan seemed to think it was ridiculous. I sure as heck thought it was. Brandon always prepared himself with a survival kit in his basement. "You never know." He would tell us as we shook our heads.

Little did we know we would need it.

It happened on a freezing day in January. I was over at the Gail's house, playing a card game with Brandon and Lucien, waiting for Logan to come home from work. He was about an hour late, and not responding to my texts.

Lucien turned on the radio to distract us, when the emergency signal went out.

"ALL PERSONS ARE ADVISED TO STAY IN THEIR HOMES. A CHEMICAL HAS BEEN RELEASED FROM SEVERAL MEDICAL FACILITIES ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. ALL PERSONS STAY IN THEIR HOMES."

I called Logan I don't know how many times, to no avail. Eventually I went straight to voicemail. I banged my fist against the wall. Brandon and Lucien were running around the house, locking doors and windows. I was sobbing. I collapsed into a heap on the love seat. My brown hair covered my face, my bangs not being the only thing covering my hazel eyes. It was just Brandon, Lucien and I home, so Brandon immediately called his parents. No answer.

BOOM. The entire house shook. I screamed and ran to grab onto Brandon.

"Everyone into the basement!" Brandon shouted. Lucien and I immediately ran and sat on the couch. I curled up in a ball ounce again. Lucien turned the radio on, to be met by mostly fuzz. Brandon did the same to the TV, which gave use the same results.

Brandon had food and water stored in the basement to last for at least a month. We found sleeping bags and laid them on the floor, unsure of how long we would be down there.

Over the next hour, we heard three more loud booms, followed by the earth shaking. I cried quietly in my sleeping bag, while Brandon and Lucien listened to the radio. We could heard things upstairs crashing and tumbling, but none of us dared to go up. All cell signal and WiFi had been knocked out. We were lost it seemed. Stuck in the basement.

A week went by before help finally came. A small group of three EMS student, along with two construction workers cleared us out. Logan's friends.
