"Where is it exactly that you've brought me?"

Her voice interrupts the silence that would have otherwise dragged him deeper into his thoughts  and she's there, suddenly, her silhouette cloaked mostly in the darkness that now saturates the space. There's a light coming from the fire he's grown in the corner but it's not enough to illuminate her face

"You're safe" he says, looking away from the direction of her voice "that's all you need to know"

For a moment he thinks she'll ask about the honeymoon, about Istanbul, the ocean

But instead she takes a couple steps further into the room, arms crossed tightly against her body, the fabric of the dress he's given her wrinkling under the tension

"Safe from what, Miran?" its quiet, as she says it, but underneath it he can hear resolve

"Don't ask me that now"

"Then when?"

The stubbornness he hears in her voice gives him no hope that this will end in peace and so he turns, slowly enough so to not further unsettle the thoughts that have gathered like a swarm in his head

I'll go crazy, he thinks to himself, squaring his shoulders in order to face her

I'll burn to ashes if I don't put out this fire that burns in my heart

His jaw is clenched tightly enough by now that the sensation is all but lost

He doesn't feel it anymore,

how close his teeth are to shattering ,

how tightly he balls his fist

All he feels is fire

"Don't do it Reyyan" he says, taking a step large enough in her direction that he's invading her space

Don't ask me things that even I can't comprehend

He watches her eyes for a moment, seeing there, like a reflection, the same flames that seem to blaze through his veins and then--

A movement of her hand

The fire raging even hotter

"Reyyan" he says, speaking from behind clenched teeth, his gaze trained on the cellphone clutched tightly in her hand "tell me you didn't"

He reaches for it, the small black device now the sole focus of his frenzy and it shatters, easily, splintering into pieces as it strikes the stone of the ground

"What have you done" he says, eyes wide, voice small enough that he's speaking mostly to himself

"what have you done, Reyyan"

He looks at the fragments of the phone, one Firat had left for emergencies, untraceable he'd said

Untraceable, but-

"Who have you called?" he barrages, taking yet another step, charging towards her, reaching out to capture her wrist, desperate, mostly, for something steady to hold on to

"Tell me!"

There's tears pooling in her gaze now and her eyes are wide, brimming too with some other emotion

He's seen it before, that look that she seems to drown in

He's been treading it all his life, endless waves, trying just to keep enough of it out of his lungs to allow him a breath--

rage

He knows it well.

"I'll get away from you, Miran Aslanbey" she says, nearly spitting the words in his face

"I know what you've done"

"What is it that you know?" he has her captured, a large, shaky hand clutched tightly around her wrist

"Speak!" he exclaims, his wild eyes growing even more unruly with every second of her silence

"What is it that you think you know, Reyyan? That you would give away our location? That you would put us both in danger?"

'You need to tell me where you are, Reyyan' Azat's voice had commanded, sounding frantic and like he knew something--she might have asked him what it was, what made him so sure that she was in danger but she only had enough time until Miran came back with the firewood and-

'I want to talk to my father, Azat abi, to my mother, please-'

'Reyyan, that man is not who he claims to be--he has ruined us...ruined us'

"I heard you" she says simply, Azat's words still echoing in her memory, trying to pull her wrist away but to no avail "what you were talking with Firat--about your revenge"

He goes still, suddenly, though his grip on her wrist doesn't budge. It grows tighter, actually, and she feels it, the pressure of his fingers as they dig into her wristbone, the heat of the fervor that seems to shake his body, the crackling energy left over from whatever love they'd shared back in that cabin and she gasps, feeling then the motion as he draws her in even closer

"You don't know" and he says it like its the truth, breathing out the words so close that she feels them as they seep into her pores

"You couldn't know" he continues, reckless, dazed, seeming lost in his own confession

"I gave up everything--everything--for you"
