Chapter-9

The day

If you had told me a month earlier, that I would be getting engaged and would be entering into a new relationship this soon, I would have probably considered you the most crazy and mad one. But the situation has changed now. It's an utmost shocking and surprising thing even for me.

Time waits for no one. It keeps on moving, irrespective of whether you like it or not. These two weeks have been a roller coaster ride for me. As the day and the time approaches closely, my anxiety has only climbed up like anything.

I was verifying on the last minute checklist when my mom came and inquired about the engagement ring. I pointed her the place I had placed it safely.

She told, she was going to take it to the temple for performing some special prayers. Parents and their belief in certain traditions can't be changed, I sighed.

My home had turned upside down with having a function at the evening. Everybody was busy running around to complete the task allocated to them. It had been a while since the last wedding happened. That added some extra excitement to the already peaking josh.

Gauri and I were arranging the dresses and jewelries so as to not to get unnecessary fuss at the final hour.

"Gauri, go and check on your mom. She's calling you for something", dad said entering my room.

"Haan papa", Gauri replied and went out of the room soon.

I was so indulged in arranging stuffs that I didn't notice dad standing behind me until I turned back.

"Dad,  You're still here? I didn't realize that you're here, what happened?"

"Come, sit here. I wanted to talk to you", he signaled tapping the bed beside him after having a seat for himself.

"Haan tell me dad", I said settling beside him.

"Annika, beta you're happy with this rishta right? You didn't decide to get married just because we asked you to?"

"Dad why are you asking about this now?"

"I only want your happiness Annika. Nothing else matters much, you know that?"

"Of course dad, I know. You would never force me into anything"

"And about the alliance, I'm happy. I decided to get married to Shivaay on my own. You know your daughter very well for a fact that she can't be forced into anything, leave alone into getting married", I simpered.

He smiled a little. "Stay happy like this always", he said placing his hand on my head.

I smiled at him. He left after giving a small pat on my shoulder.

Dad had always been so enthusiastic about things related to me. This side of him being emotional regarding me getting married was an entirely new discovery for me. He had never expressed this side of him. I guess every parent is like this, protective, possessive and a little extra caring.
