➸ Chapter Two

When I woke up, the drunk stranger was nowhere in sight. No note, no piece of clothing- nothing.

Since I was convinced that he had left as soon as he woke up sober, I decided to take a quick shower. I threw on light blue jeans, brown boots and a white sweatshirt before blow drying my hair and putting it in a bun. I checked my phone as I grabbed my brown messenger bag and headed out of the house.

Taking a deep breath of the cold autumn air, I smiled to myself and turned off my phone to enjoy my walk out of the woods and into town.

I opened the door to Midnight Café and let myself enjoy the strong sent of roasted coffee beans. With a soft smile, I got on line. Midnight Café was painted dark purple, black and a tiny amount of white. Well, the interior looked like that. It looked like midnight. Even the windows had a dark glass so it didn't effect the café's lighting.

Outside, there was Native American mural on the side, spray painted beautifully and in the front of the café, a moon stood beside 'Midnight Café'. The windows were clear from the outside although they were dark on the inside. The door also had the same glass and dark purple rims.

"Hey Astrid!" Jace greeted me, ecstatically. Jace was a friend of Tyler's who was working here while going to a college nearby. I grinned at him. "Hey Jace. How's your morning been?"

"Awful. I have to smile like this," he pointed to his wide smile. "and I want to go back home to sleep. Is Tyler coming over for the weekend?"

"Yeah, he should be getting home right about now," I explained with an amused smile on my face as I watched his smile widen. "So do you want your regular?"

"Yup. And you know Tyler's favorite, caramel. As for Dad, I feel like he'd prefer a black today,"

"Alright. Coming right up," Jace said, his smile dissolving as he walked into the back to make the order. I sat on a stool nearby the circular counter and observed the place once more. I checked my phone a few times, my eyes roaming around the familiar faces in the café.

The sturdy lady that would always order a black coffee, chewed on her nails as she whispered something into her phone. She always had some sort of problem, and didn't hesitate to tell whoever sat in front her in the booth.

My eyes then roamed to the young girl that always wore way too much make up for her age. She had the face of a beautiful child and made it look like she was 10 times older. She always ordered a mango smoothie.

My gaze then stopped on the mess of black hair in the booth in front of the girl. He looked up for a second, and then looked down, scribbling away in a faded journal. I focused on his facial features. They seemed so familiar.

"Here's your coffee and your dad's coffee, Astrid. I'll have Tyler's ready in just a minute," I jumped slightly, still so focused on trying to figure out who the dark haired mess was.

"Thanks Jace," I smiled warmly, taking a sip of my coffee. He nodded, and continued making Tyler's coffee. I took another sip, before turning around and trying to make out who the new person in the booth was.

"Astrid!" My eyes flickered to my older brother.

"Tyler!" We had caught the attention of everyone else in the café, causing Dad to glare at us. I simply giggled and wrapped my arms around him. I never really got to see Tyler so I was determined to make every single hour I had with him worth remembering so he'd visit more often.

He would also say how he never visited as often because it was 'boring' out here. Which is why he moved to the city. Tyler has always loved a good thrill, thus why he and Cassidy get along so well.

"Tyler, so good to see you man!" Jace practically yelled, setting down his coffee on the counter before doing some weird handshake. Tyler smiled, and grabbed his coffee, taking a quick sip before catching up with Jace for a few minutes since they haven't seen each other for a while.

"Astrid, don't you think that's a good idea?" My mind would not stop until I found out who that damn person was.

"Uh..yeah! Sounds great."

"So you'll start tomorrow? Or is that too soon?" Jace asked, scribbling down an order. I looked at Tyler, and then at Dad who was too busy talking on the phone.

"I mean it gets pretty busy around here and since finals are coming up I'll be cramming for them and won't have time to do my night shift."

"People come here at night?" Tyler questioned. Jace nodded.

"You should take the job, I mean it's so boring here and all you ever do is lay around. This'll help you meet new people." Tyler shrugged, drinking his coffee. I turned around and saw the dark haired mess stand up. Gosh was he tall.

"Thanks for the tea, Jace. See you around." He ran a hand through his hair, and smiled a little before opening the door.

A sudden burst of excitement hit me, it was him. I turned back to Jace and gave him a small smile.

"What time do I start?"
