Sunset. The waves reached out the sand as the sun dips gently down the waters. Near the shore were three people wearing black garments and each of them were holding a rose. The woman wipes her eyes for tears kept falling. The gentleman, who was the woman’s husband, embraces his wife tightly as she cries. They were no doubt, mourning for their loss. Both were grieving except for the young lad. Despite the pain in his heart, he hasn’t shed any tear, not even a drop…
“Andrew dear, we’ll be leaving now.” Mrs. Boyd said as she wipes her tears.
“Yes maam. My condolences again.” he answered.
“We will go abroad tomorrow. We decided to start all over again and we can’t in here. This place holds too many memories of our daughter.” Mr. Boyd said with a sigh.
“I understand how you feel sir. I can’t help but blame myself.”
“No Andrew. It’s not your fault. She was a good person and she considered you someone important.” said Mr. Boyd.
“My husband is right.” Mrs. Boyd added. “And I’m sure she would’ve wanted you to have this.” she took something from her purse and it was a leather notebook.
“What is it maam?”
“It was hers… and now it belongs to you.” she handed him the notebook.
“Take care Andrew.” the couple exclaimed as they bade goodbye.
Andrew remained at the shore and gazed upon the sun. He remembered that both of them usually watch the sun set together. But there he was now… all alone. He wanted to cry to express how badly he was hurt but it seems like he couldn’t. All he feels at that moment was pure numbness and complete oblivion.
He felt his knees grew weak making him sit down the sands. He stared at the notebook which once belonged to his dear friend. He slowly flipped its cover and began reading its contents…
