     A/N
Is this a scrap?? Who knows. Just wrote this out. If you find this leave a comment telling me if it's any good. I'll continue it if I get a lot. I just write down my thoughts. Ok have fun with this terrible, unedited garbage ;)

The soft sound of rain was soothing as I read. There really wasn't much else to do when it rained. Keep in the dark was a rule of thumb, but bending that rule was easy when you were creative.

Shayla snuggled in my arms, finally drifting off to sleep. The children at her day care had scared her with stories of the 7th dimension, and the only thing that would stop her crying was me.

     Apparently.

It was stuffy underneath the quilt, which I used as a tent. It was a ploy that made Shayla think I was being playful, but truly protected us both from what was outside.

Careful not to wake her up, I clicked off the flashlight and leaned against the wall. The blanket was propped up on my knees, so I kept them steady as I felt myself drift off to sleep.

     "Mo-mmy?" Croaked Shayla softly.

     "Yes?"

     "What's a dimension?"

I sighed, feeling exasperated. This was a topic of conversation every night in our small apartment since that boy- Jack, his name was?- frightened my 8 year old with tales of truth.

"Nothing for you to worry about." I told her primly.

"How do you get to a dimension?"

I sat up, careful not to let the blanket fall. "Do you know why we hide when it rains?" She shook her head, frizzy brown hair creating static shocks in the darkness. "Anything reflective- which means you can see yourself, like a mirror, brings you a another dimension."

     "Why?"

     "A story for another time."

     "But mom-"

"No." I knew that anything reflective was in out of our  house... I had made sure of it years ago. But it was still risky to move Shayla into her bed while it was raining. Weighing my options, I decided to try.

I hoisted her onto my hip and tugged the quilt off my head before, with closed eyes and a skilled maneuvering that can only come with practice, I tucked Shayla into bed.

I kissed her forehead and whispered, "Don't look in the mirrors, ok sweetie?"

She nodded, squeezing her eyes shut. "Uh huh. Or the bad things will pull you in."
