a monologue to you

392 12 3

your arms are a little too long and your body is too lanky for your head to fill the space where my neck meets my shoulder but it's alright because even jigsaw pieces are separated by that thin dark line

but your eyes are fever bright and the skin on your knuckles is scrubbed raw and i know you think that girls like me are destined to be the other woman, cardboard covered in cheap velvet and perfume-on-sale

you only see yourself alone on an endless road towards something and nothing where home is just the place you lay your head for the night
and you are where the beautiful and broken things find bright places to stay
you are temptation and comfort

beyond the glitz and the glamor of your rented suits you're searching for the fire in every single experience, stuck between taking a risk and living on the kindness of strangers, stuck between being a good person and a great man
understanding the cruelties of compromise and choice
and all the while your teeth ache with the sweetness of opportunity & all the things the world can offer a man as magnificent as you

in that way i understood
the way you were charismatic and magnetic and how you played the room like the people were just the pens you used to cross off things on your to do list
where love is just an art for you
a canvas people attach meaning to based on their feelings and their perceptions and never the truth
where hope is the star of your creation and you became the only springs in the winters of life

where your brilliance dances on the line edging into madness
madness with beautiful eyes and an electric soul
the kind that draws attention as if you were a planet that exerted your own gravity
the oddity of the coveted torrent, mesmeric youth personified
where trying to grasp even a bit of your hurricane both dazzled and dizzied me, tearing my nerves yet somehow steeling them

nothing to lose and nothing to gain, except the never-ending desire to make our lives a piece of the freedom of the open world
where my darkest fantasies are ones i embrace and am in touch with

this is not a revelation
this is rumination
