While staying in Pennsylvania for the Constitutional Convention, Hamilton and his good friend Gouverneur Morris (I'll tell y'all a fun story about why he had a peg leg later) were talking about how Washington signaled to people that they should keep a formal distance from him and not get too friendly with him. Hamilton bet Morris that he wouldn't dare to give Washington a slap on the back, so, naturally, Morris took him up on that bet. Morris found Washington near a fireplace in a drawing room, and he walked up to him, slapped him on the back, and said, "My dear general, how happy I am to see you look so well."Washington gave him such an intense death glare that Morris regretted ever taking the bet.
