The bell rang marking the end of first hour as people poured into the hallway from every classroom. Cole signed and joined the crowd of people and headed to Senior English. He was greeted by the warm smile of his teacher. "Good morning Cole." She smiled as she propped the door open and went into the hall to coversate with another teacher. He nodded to her in reply then sat his stuff down. His teacher came back into the room and looked at him. "Your music is extremely loud." She remarked. He smirked and clicked the volume button twice on his headphones. Mrs. D smiled at him then left the classroom once again.More people came into the classroom as the bell rang. "Alright everyone! I hope you had a good weekend. Please get out your independent reading books! We're going to read for ten minutes." Mrs. D announced. Cole pulled his book out of his tattered book bag and raised his hand. "Mrs. D, I need to go to the library." He mumbled. She nodded in approval and he left the room to go to the library.
He was walking back to class when he noticed one of the principals following him down the hall. He smirked to himself and he thought it was funny. This happened almost everyday for one reason or another. He started speed walking down the hall and the principal kept the same pace as him. He looked back and proceeded to haul ass down the hall back to his English class. He sat down and acted like nothing happened as the principal walked up to the classroom door. He opened his new book and pretended to read it as the principal casually walked up to Cole's desk. "Get your stuff and come with me Mr. Reynolds" He said softly so he didn't interrupt the whole class. Cole let out a heavy sighed and got out of his chair following the principal down to the office. He had his headphones in their original position--on his ears. Mr. W glanced at Cole and ripped his headphones off his head. "Cole I've been trying to get your attention." He sighed. They got to the office and Mr. W stopped in front of the secretary desk and held up a Tupperware container. "Phone. Now." He said sternly. Cole placed his phone into the box and smiled at the secretary. "You know, I should have a plaque with my name on it for that box." He remarked. The secretary was not impressed and Mr. W smacked Cole upside the head. "Get your ass in my office now Mr. Reynolds." He snapped. Cole looked at the principal offended. "Ow! You just hit me." He said sitting down. Mr. W rolled his eyes and shut the door. "You're nineteen years old Cole, I'm sure you'll live." He sighed as he sat down at this desk. Cole looked around. " Mr. Wetzel, I love what you've done with your office." He said smiling. Mr. W wasted no time opening the top drawer of his desk and pulled out a thin folder with red paper sticking out of the top. Cole looked at the folder and a shit-eating grin appeared on his face. "Do you know what these are Cole?" Mr. W asked. Cole's grin got bigger as he shook his head-- clearly lying. Mr. W pinched the top of his nose and opened the folder. "These are the detention notices that you "lost". Mr. W explained as he spread the papers out for Cole to see. "I asked your teachers to fish these out of the trash can if you threw them away in any class." He continued. Cole shifted in his chair and messed with his brown goatee. "Those aren't mine." Cole replied finally. Mr.W laid his head on the desk and groaned loudly. "Jesus Christ, You're the reason I go home and drink Cole." He mumbled. Cole looked at him. "You can't say that." Cole remarked. Mr. W groaned really loudly then sat up. "Cole, you remind me of your older brother Austin when he was a senior." Mr. W said. Cole smiled. "Thank you I try to be--" Mr. W held up his hand and stopped Cole. "He acted the same way you did and got in the same amount of trouble as you have been in. He almost didn't graduate because of it. So I'm talking to you because it's to the point where if you don't stay out of trouble, you will not graduate." He explained. Cole's grin faded. "Okay." He replied. Mr. W pinched the top of his nose as he held up one of the detention notices to read it. "Seriously Cole?? Why did you write that on this?" Mr. W asked as he handed Cole the paper.
It read:
Cole J. Reynolds is required to serve a two hour detention on 04/5/19. Please bring academic materials with you to suspension. Please report to detention by 3:10 pm.
Suspension supervisor: Mrs. A
Room #: 135
Mr.W looked up at you at Cole clearly not impressed. "And you wrote. "Mrs. A can suck my ass." He read as he put the note down pinching the top of his nose once again. The same shit-eating grin reappeared on Cole's face. Mr.W sighed. "This going to be a long nineteen days." He said.
