Ziplining with friends

Y/N, May 15th
You have a fitful sleep, full of nightmares about your parents. After a really bad one, you gasp aloud and sit up straight in you cot. Not even noticing Max watching you, you pull your knees up to your chest and start to sob. Max comes over and hugs you, telling you that it's alright, that he's here for you. You lean into his embrace, glad for the comfort.

Once you calm down, you wipe your tears and apologize to Max for waking him up. He moves to sit in front of you on your cot and holds your hands. He tells you that it's okay, that you don't have to worry about shit like that. He says that he'd rather wake up and help you then lay there and hear you cry, that it'd probably hurt him too much. He leans over and grabs Mr. Honeynuts and places him in your arms.

The statement brings you close to tears again, but you just nod at him and hug the bear. You look around and notice that it's still really dark, so you ask him if he'd stay with you so maybe you can sleep better. He smiles at you and says that of course he would, he'd do it every day if you'd like him to. You chuckle at that, and then lay down with Max at your side and fall back to sleep.

You don't have any dreams the rest of the night, and you guys wake up to David and Daniel walking along the tents waking the campers up. You smile at each other and say good morning. Max gets up and goes back to his cot, then tells you that he'll go to Nikki and Neil's section so you can change. Once he does that, you put on a black hoodie that says "Two words. One finger." In white letters and a pair of black jeans. You toss on your socks and shoes and brush out your hair. Once you finish, you walk out to Max and both of you go to the Mess Hall.

Daniel stops you right before you walk in, asking if he could speak to you -he glances at Max- and asks to speak alone. You tell him that whatever he wants to tell you, he can say it in front of Max. Daniel sighs and mumbles "fine, you win" you smile at him and hold Max's hand. "So what do you want to say?" You ask your uncle. "I just wanted to say I'm sorry for your loss, but I'll try and be the best guardian I can for you. I hope you'll accept that." He tells you sadly. You shrug and tell him that you've got Max to help and that as long as he can keep up with you, Daniel should be fine. Max smiles at you, then tells Daniel that you guys should go get some breakfast. So you do. And it tastes shitty like always but it's food.

After about five minutes, David announces that everyone needs to meet in the activities field in ten minutes for daily activities. You look at Max and shrug, then hold his hand and walk out to the activities field. When you get there, you see Daniel standing beside a rickety tower. Looking up at it, you notice that it's actually a zipline that disappears through the trees.

Once all the campers collect around Daniel, he motions to the boxes by his feet. One is labeled "Helmets" and the other is labeled "Life vests". "Good morning, campers! Seeing as it's my first day as an official Camp Counselor, I've decided to let you all go ziplining!" He exclaims. The crowd of campers cheer at that statement. "I would ask you all to please put on the safety gear, but if you don't want to I can't really force you to, though if you drown I'm not obliged to help you." Daniel explains in a serious tone. "Drown? How would we drown on a zipline?" You ask Daniel. He smiles at you. "What a great question, Y/N! You see, this zipline goes straight to the lake! It ends right before you would hit the water, so you can detach yourself and land safely!" Daniel seems excited about this zipline thing.

"So, who wants to go first?" He barely gets to finish the question before all the campers yell and put their hands up. He chuckles at them, then calls for you to go first, since you didn't scream or yell. You tell him to let someone else go since you need to put on a swimsuit, and he nods and you run to your tent, tossing on a black and white striped two piece. You run back, and notice that Nerris is at the top of the tower. You cheer for her and give her a thumbs up. David sits at the top of the zipline, he hooks her on then gives her the all clear to jump. Before you can see her jump, Max scares you by wrapping his arms around you from behind. "You look really pretty, Y/N" he whispers in your ear, turning your face a bright pink. "M-Max! What the fuck! You nearly gave me a heart attack!" You yell back at him, twisting around so you face him. He doesn't get a chance to respond as Daniel calls you over to go on the zipline.

You walk up the rickety tower and wave to David. He smiles at you, then asks if you want a life vest. "Nah, I'll be fine without it," you respond. He sighs then gives you the all-clear to jump. You run at the line, trusting that it'll hold you. Once you're out of the line of sight of the other campers, you spread your arms out like Tris from the divergent books. You love ziplining, the feel of air all around you is just amazing. Too soon, the ride is over and you detach yourself from the line by clicking a button on the strap above you. You hit the water with a splash, then swim away a bit to wait for Max to came down.
