Invisible Distances

Crowds were less frightening, when you held my shoulder.

The thoughtful rides home were the balm of my summer.

You fit in like a timely piece, noting the broken parts.

My distance from other hearts finally had mended starts.

You were the star in my night sky, shining with God's song.

The memories sang better lyrics when you came along.

Exchanging stories over phone lines, in blue rooms.

Talks for wisdom and dreams under different moons.

Distance was nothing when words traveled for us--

A thousand distances blurred by well spent hours.

We're moving on to a different road, a lovely stage.

And you'll be weaving more perfect words, fit for this age.

You'll be lost in graceful arms--with her you'll write a page.

Yes, our distance will be different now, widened by seas.

But what you've done remains--this part of you I'll see,

Remaining in my heart, your timeless letters for me.

Thank you for making the seconds worth it.

My skies won't forget all the suns you've lit.

The distances between our  hearts are invisible.

These new miles won't abandon the love that's plentiful.

This poem is dedicated to Macky S., a good friend and older brother who was flying out of our country. He was the one who first taught me how to write stories :)
