Amber (wc: 299 words)

"Daddy, where are we going?" The small girl asked from the backseat. The father didn't look back - his eyes were concentrated on the road, although his mind was distraught.

"It's gonna be okay, baby. We're going somewhere nice," he comforted the young girl. Meanwhile, he was rather the opposite. High-pitched wails blared from the radio, startling the young girl in the backseat.

Dark and angry tears emerged from the corners of his frustrated eyes. He pushed his foot further into the gas pedal, accelerating the car.

"Daddy, why is it saying my name on the radio? Am I a princess? What's an amber alert?" The young girl recognized the tears in the corners of her father's eyes as they poured down his face.

"I don't know why, baby. You're already my princess. Just ignore it. I'm just happy I got to see you again." His voice soothed the young girl, even when his voice was far from calm. Although he was obviously distressed, the little girl found comfort in her Daddy's voice. She missed when Daddy and Mommy lived together.

"But daddy, why are you crying? I want to hug you." The young girl began to fall into her father's pit of sorrow. All she longed for was a hug from Daddy but they had been going very fast in the car for a while.

"I missed you too much, baby. Just a bit too much," he replied. His voice cracked as his emotions poured through. Sirens continued to wail as tears lined the side of his face.

"Where are we going? Can we get ice cream, Daddy?" Her father continued to intensely wipe away tears from his face. The young girl couldn't help but admire her father who she had missed so much.

"Of course, baby. Of course."
