The novel is about Zoeline Takao, a loner in school which somehow made her way into 9th Grade without any friends. Her goal is to finish studying and get a job as soon as possible to help her parents in abroad. She is half Japanese, half Filipino, so talking in Tagalog is pretty normal in this novel. It occurs in the Phillipines, a place called, "The Pearl of the South". It has its reasons for that.
Somewhere in that country is a school called Kamito Academy, where Zoeline goes to. There, she befriends a lot of people, ranging from weird ones, to trustworthy ones. But there's someone important that she met....And the secret, lies beyond the next page.
