"Jess?"
I look over at him, meeting his eyes.
"Yeah?"
"This doesn't mean I don't love you. I love you so damn much, it hurts. Please don't leave me." Tears flow down his face like an ocean spray.
"I won't. Babe, I think you're just traumatized. Do you want to see a therapist? I can search for one."
"I think that might be a good idea." He continues to cry.
I bring him close so he can cry it out on my lap. I see his parents walk in and see him crying. His mom mouths 'What happened?' at me. I mouth 'Personal stuff.' at her. They walk out so he can calm down.
After a while, his crying calms down and I hear light snores start. I breathe a quiet sigh of relief. That doctor must have traumatized him bad. I've got to start looking for a therapist for him. I pick up my phone and search up some local ones in our area, based on the reviews on them. I scroll through while I'm also checking to see how much they would make us pay.
I see all our parents walk in and I put my finger to my lips to say that everyone is asleep except for me.
"Is he okay?" Mark asks.
I shake my head no.
"Do you wanna tell us?" Olivia asks.
"No. Let him tell you when the time is right."
"Okay, we can live with that." Mark says, looking at me, then Olivia.
"How are you feeling, sweetie?" My dad asks.
"Fine. Sore."
"How did the birth go?"
"I actually had to have an emergency C-Section."
"What happened?" He sits down.
"The babies weren't coming out as fast as we had hoped. I kept pushing and pushing but then the doctor stood up and rolled me to the OR. When there, Alex got scrubs on and sat next to me. They did their thing to get the twins out and then we came back here, and then Alex had a bad moment. It's not my place to tell you what happened to him, it's his choice to tell you."
"We understand. We'll give him however long before he's ready to tell us."
I hear more knocks and see Ronnie, Andy and Chris come in.
"Hey, guys. Shh. Alex is sleeping."
"Is he okay?" Chris asks.
"No. He's not. Give him some time and he will tell you what happened. Only when he's ready."
"Poor guy." Ronnie says.
"We heard you had your twins. That's why we're here." Andy says.
"Yeah, they're at the nursery."
The guys all scramble to go see the twins, causing me to laugh a little. Imagine three rock stars running down a hall to see someone else's kids in a nursery. Oh wait, that's our friends. We have great friends and family, I don't know where we would be without them.
I hear Fallen Angels by BVB go off on my phone and see Andy texted me. I open the text and it's a picture of him in scrubs holding the twins, smiling. He sends me two more pictures of Ronnie and Chris in the same getup, causing me to laugh. Those three, I swear. They're a mess.
After a while, they all come back in and we chat for a while.
Alex's POV:
I sit up and pop my back, stretching afterwards.
"Well, hello, sleepyhead." Jess says.
"Hey, hun. Where's the twins?"
"In the nursery. Why?"
"I wanna see them." I look around and realize we're not the only ones in here.
"You can go see them, I can't walk right now, or the sutures and staples will pull."
"When did y'all get here?"
"While you were asleep." My dad says.
"Oh."
I leave the room and head to the nursery, looking in the window after I reach it. I look for my twins and I spot them in a double crib. I give a small smile and go in. A lady has me put on sterile scrubs again and then she puts them in my arms. I just smile like an idiot the whole damn time.
"Sir, do you want me to take a picture for you?" The nurse asks.
"Yes. Yes, please."
I look down at the twins and she takes the picture. She puts my phone back by me and I just stare at them. They both have red hair, but I haven't seen their eyes yet. They're bound to be blue like both mine and Jess's.
"Would you like to bring them to your room?"
"Can I?"
"Yes, you can. You can put them in this crib here." She shows me to a double crib.
I push it out the door and take off the scrubs. I put them in the disposal unit and roll the crib back to the room. I stop in front of the door and take a picture of them. I put my phone back in my pocket and roll them into the room.
My parents and Jess's dad gasp, I'm assuming her mom is watching AJ and Allyssa. My mom walks over and looks at them, squealing a little.
I hand the girl to my mom, and the boy to my dad. They coo at the babies for a while and then hand them to Jess and I. I give my phone to my dad and he takes a picture of us.
A couple days later...
It's finally time for Jess, the twins and I to go home. We're gonna get a second car as soon as the hospital bills are paid.
I park the car in the driveway and we see two balloons on the mailbox, showing we had both a boy and a girl. I help Jess out of the car and then get the twins out of the back seat. I carry the car seats as Jess walks up to the house. We enter the house and all I hear is 'Surprise!!!'. I bring the twins in the living room and everyone coos at them.
Jess's POV:
I see Nikki walk over to me holding their baby girl Nevaeh Amya Erickson.
"Now she has some cousins to play with."
"Yeah. I'm glad that your pregnancy went through." I stroke the baby's curly dark brown hair.
Nikki is mixed race, so Nevaeh has her mommy's hair, but she has her daddy's blue eyes.
We chat with everyone until they all leave and then we put all four kids to bed. I head to the bedroom and collapse on the bed myself, almost fully asleep, just enough to notice Alex kiss my forehead. I love my family, and I'd do anything for them.
