third person pov

jihye sat at her desk in classroom 2-2, sleeping.

i mean what else do you do when you get to school early?

her light snoring could be heard up close but her shoulder length, dark hair shielded people from seeing her unattractive sleeping face.

let's admit it, we're all ugly when we sleep - nct excepted.

the beginning of class neared, and students began to slowly trickle into the classroom, each taking a glance at jihye with her face on the table, and glancing away. mr shin, the teacher, entered the classroom, sighing as he saw the mess of a class he was obliged to drag himself to work to teach. the bell rung, shrill and loud, and roll-calling commenced.

"CLASS," mr shin bellowed, trying to wake up jihye, whom he had noticed had been sleeping. she didn't move, and he sighed. "i'm taking the roll, listen out for your name."

the classroom was reasonably full - only two out of thirty three had decided to set off and skip today.

he called the role in a dreary monotonous voice until he reached his least favourite student, jung jihye.

"jung jihye?"

the class was silent. everyone knew she was present, but everyone also knew that she'd rather be anywhere but school.

"still sleeping," mr shin scoffed. he was a reasonably well tempered man nearing his forties, but he couldn't bear ignorant students, especially the ones who slept in class. mr shin made his way through the rows of tables to jihye's desk, puffing out his irritation. he tapped her on the back with an intended force. she flung upright.

"the FUCK YOU WANT?" her short temper got the best of her, and she immediately widened her eyes as she realised that class had already started and it was mr shin that she swore at. "i'm so sorry sir i thought you were-"

"detention after class, no skipping," he ordered. jihye sighed and sulked in her seat.

mr shin continued to mark the roll.

"lee donghyuck?"

"sir isn't he in class 2-3?" a girl asked.

jihye perked up to the name. she had heard that lee donghyuck was the school's heartthrob, but she didn't find him attractive in anyway. to her, he was just some random out of her radar.

"yes, he was. he's just been transferred,"

"transferred, why?" another student asked.

"i don't know, no more questions," mr shin snapped. "lee donghyuck are you here?"

at that moment, donghyuck strolled into class casually with his hands stuffed in his pockets.

"hello sir, i'm not late, am i?" he asked the obvious question. a few girls swooned at his nonchalant and cool entrance.

"technically you are, but don't worry, i've marked you as present," mr shin nodded. "take a seat next to jihye, she has an empty seat next to her."

he gestured to the spot next to a very pissed looking jihye. she was angry about not having the desk next to her as a storage desk for the mess she usually created. donghyuck eyed the mess on the desk.

"jihye please do something about that mess," mr shin rubbed his forehead. five minutes in and he was already feeling a menacing migraine coming.

"oh- yes," jihye nodded. without thinking, she pushed all the books on the table onto the floor of the aisle.

mr shin sighed and a few students chuckled at her stupid action. jung jihye was known as the dumbest girl in the grade, ranking fifth last in her grade - and the last four didn't even attend school. a few other students whispered things to each other. jihye rolled her eyes - she didn't care. so what if she was dumb? at least she attended school.

donghyuck made his way to the desk and sat down hesitantly. mr shin continued to call the roll.

"i'm just dumb, not scary," jihye scoffed as she observed donghyuck's unsure face.

donghyuck scoffed back quietly in a low voice. "bitch i ain't scared."

jihye shrugged. "let's see how long you last."

"what do you mean?"

"the longest a person has ever endured sitting next to me was a term. how long will it be before you request a seat change?"

"is that a challenge?" donghyuck smirked.

jihye shrugged again, returning the smirk.

"oh it is on," donghyuck cracked his knuckles, as if he was ready to take on an opponent. "what was your name again?"

"jihye," jihye replied confidently. "the name's jung jihye."
