Chapter 14 - Wrong Turn

Start from the beginning

"No, she fell over and hit her head on the concrete." He explains to the lady as I sit in one of the chairs around the room.

"If you would like to take her into room ten a doctor will be with you shortly." The lady says sweetly, smiling at Everett. He smiles back before turning and signalling for me to follow him. I stand up and follow behind him into a curtained room with the number 10 above it. Everett holds the curtain open for me to walk in and I sit down casually on the small bed, watching him sit down on the chair across from me. He runs a hand through his hair and I only then notice that he is dressed for work.

"How did you know where I was?" I ask and he looks up at me.

"I came back to the house and you weren't there, I was just going back to work and I saw you." He explains.

"Oh." I mutter, rubbing a hand along my throbbing forehead.

"What were you doing?" He folds his hands, staring at me quizzingly.

"I was trying to get to the shops but my stupid phone led me in the wrong direction." I say angrily, still pissed off with my phone.

"What would you have done if I didn't come." He asks, making me think.

"I would've probably just gone with them." I admit, looking down at my feet.

"What?" He says angrily, causing me to look up at him. "You would've gone with them?"

"I tried fighting them, but it was useless. They hurt me Everett!" I snap back. Why should I have to explain myself? He stands up and moves in front of me, wiping a tear away from my cheek. I look away from him, too pissed off to care about the stupid tingles he was causing.

"Callie." He says, placing a hand on my thigh. Again, I ignore him. "Callie." He repeats, moving his face close to mine. "Please don't ignore me." He whispers close to my ear, sending a small shiver down my spine. Damn his affect on me! I turn my head and look at him, an angry expression across my face.

"What?" I snap, forcing myself to stay angry.

"I shouldn't have snapped." He says, squeezing my thigh.

"It's not my fault." I grab his hand that's on my thigh and push it off.

"I know it's not and i'm sorry." He says, stepping back and sitting in the chair. "It just really pissed me off."

"And you think it didn't piss me off?" I can't help the anger in me, it wants to be let out and Everett is here.

"I'm not saying it didn't."

"Can you leave." I say suddenly, looking at him lazily. He watches me with a confused look.

"You want me to leave?" He asks in confusion.

"Yes, get out!" I snap, pointing to the curtain. He looks at me for a few moments before standing up angrily and pushing through the curtain. I watch the curtain move again and a doctor step through, looking behind him at Everett who was now walking into the waiting room. The doctor shakes his head and closes the curtain, turning his attention to me.

"Callie?" He asks me, looking at the clipboard in his hand.

"Yeah." I answer him, shifting my weight.

"Can you please take your hand away from your head so I can get a better look." He says, stepping close to me and examining my head. I take my hand away and look at the blood dripping off it. The doctor quickly grabs a wipe and hands it to me to clean off the blood. He starts cleaning the back of my head and I wince as he touches my gash. I finish wiping the blood off of my hand at the same time as the doctor pulls away and grabs a tray of tools.
