Blackwell Prep. Not one of my favourite places to come to but, what can you do. Every child has to go to school. No matter how much of a living hell it is. Too be honest that's an inaccurate statement, this place is more like a living luxury. Literally! It's just the people that go here, that make me want to punch a couple faces... but as a student at Blackwell Prep School For The Gifted, doing physical acts such as that would be seen as unacceptable and not well mannered. Also, I just don't own the guts to actually hurt someone, but I have squashed a couple flies...
The screen of my perfectly rounded glasses steamed up as I stepped out of the crisp January air and into the warmth of Blackwell Prep's corridors. My cheeks drew away from their numbness as they nuzzled the comforting air. Numerous students floated by, neatly dressed in our uniforms clichéd colour variety of deep reds and royal blues, with a few touches of chequered print. I strolled along with the crowds, friends hugged, gossiped, greeted and smiled at one an other, it was the start of a new term so this was a usual routine in any school, this did not include me however. I felt like a ghost, unacknowledged...b-but that's how I prefer to stay. Alone. I'm not gonna beat around the bush, in my life friends are the alien race and loneliness is my trusted sidekick, never EVER leaving my side. Yeah I may get a couple of heys and did you do the history homework and- well that's basically it, That's why I like to keep to myself, Octavia Radcliffe the schools lone wol-
"Ouch!" I winced in pain, as my knees hit the floor. What just happened?!
Whilst on the uncomfortable carpet I came face to face with a pair of unflattering trainers, it's once pearly white material had faded into a stained grey. A hand reached out and pulled me up.
"Than-"
"Can you watch where your going next time," an aggravated voice groaned at me, as I readjusted my glasses. I looked up to be greeted with an unfamiliar face. The boy towered over me with his eyebrows formed into a frown. His hair was hidden in his beanie hat, though dark brown strands managed to escape. His-
"Jesus Christ, you posh twits don't watch where you're going and can't even bloody apologize!" He complained aloud, a couple smirks came from passer byes. I could feel more than his eyes on me.
"U-um, I" stuttering, seriously Octavia. Answer, ANSWER!
"I-I" the mysterious figure mirrored my uncontrollable stutter in his speech, mocking me. My eyebrows then changed its expression into a frown also. He just rolled his chestnut eyes and budged past me impatiently. RING!!
"So to recap, can anybody explain Functionalist points of views on the functions of the family?" Miss Reese questioned, her beady eyes started skimming past each student. I instantly looked down at my class book and put my acting skills to the test, picking up my pencil and making random squiggles in the air but close enough to my book to look like I'm in the middle of writing something. A very good trick actually.
"Octavia, what do you think?" I looked up from my book wide eyed.
Spoke too soon. Dammit.
"M-my hand wasn't up madame." I stated quietly, I could see smug faces on some of the students.
"I know, but I'd like you to answ-" all heads in my sociology class turned to the door as we heard it brush against the carpet speedily.
"Hi, is this Miss Reese's class, I'm Atlas Taylor, your new student.". What a coincidence. The boy seemed to have recognised me, as our eyes met for a touch of a second. I narrowed mine slightly, though he just gave me a small smirk. Annoying.
"Ah, yes, uh nice to meet you." her welcoming enthusiasm wore off as she took in his persona, he well, how do I explain this? How do I explain without sounding like a snobby little b*tch? He lacked neatness.
"Hey dude where did you get the Jordan's from?" Micheal Doran spoke aloud snickering.
"Yeah those had to have cost at least 150 quid" His equally abnoxious buddy Jack Beechum chimed along. The classes laughter began to grow, I looked back at Atlas. He looked surprisingly calm.
"Alright class that's enough-" Miss Reese began.
"Seriously Jack, let's not lie, they look at least poundland worthy." another voice mocked aloud, interrupting our 'very helpful' teacher.
Out of nowhere Atlas burst out laughing, I couldn't tell if it was fake or not. The whole class fell silent, even Miss Reese.
"Sorry, sorry," he apologised calming down," I just find this so funny, your supposed goal is to hurt me right, degrade me so I'm mocked for the rest of the time I attend this school, right?" He gratified smiling greatly at Micheal and his friends, he walked over to them, looking Micheal right in the eye,"I'm not new to this world, and quite frankly you are definitely not the first person to be a doosh bag and make fun of my appearance, I've been called way worse. And I think it's hilarious that you of all people are trying it with me, as the insults are coming from faces not even a mother could love." He confirmed with a satisfied smirk on his face.
Classy. My sociology class could contain them selves and roared in laughter, including myself. Micheal arose from his chair huskily, he was at least three or four inches taller than Atlas, he grabbed him by his clothing,
"Listen you dic-" he began with anger boiling in his blood.
"THAT'S ENOUGH!" Miss Reese finally butted in," Go and take a seat there next to Octavia, Atlas." She said pointing to me. I looked down back at my book instantly, avoiding more eye contact. The laughter was starting to quieten down.
Atlas trudged along the rows until reaching his desk, falling into his seat carelessly. I looked to the left of me, he leaned back lazily in his chair, staring forward towards the front of the class, smile still visible.
"What?!" He hissed, sneering at me, obviously noticing my staring. I just looked back down at my book. We clearly still have bad blood between us.
