The first time I ever saw you was at your engagement party.
I know what you're thinking, I'm eyeing your up when you're arranged to marry another man.
But it wasn't like that; well it was, I guess.
You were stood near the drinks of the celebration garden party. I didn't see you at first, only your back. There were plenty of beautiful girls, most of them were your friends and relatives. You was wearing a large blazer jacket over you slender shoulders, your fiancee in his white, buttoned up shirt stood chatting with you. His lips were close to your ear.
You was neither smiling nor frowning and you head cocked to the side when he said something that seemed to slightly amuse you.
I'm not sure if I became obsessed with you the moment I saw you, or the second or the third. But all I knew was when you turned your head towards our direction, and called for Jisoo, who was stood next to me, the world's orbit seemed to slow down. I was like a child who had discovered an electric shock for the first time, when the extent of your beauty seemed to cause a spasm of electricity to run up my spine.
I'd read about Greek goddesses in school. Athena and Aphrodite and Venus. I'd often imagined what they'd look like in my head. But the sight of you was more beautiful than any image of any Greek goddess that I had conjured. You were other-worldly, I was struck between the temptation of crashing my lips to yours and subjugating your cavern with my tongue or getting down on one knee and offering my eternal services to you.
"Irene," said Jisoo. So that was your name, Irene. Like the goddess.
It made sense.
Jisoo briskly walked towards you, her gift for your engagement grasped firmly in her arms. I followed behind her.
"Congratulations Irene, you look so beautiful," squealed Jisoo, bringing you into a hug, "and congratulations to you too Jin," Jisoo turned to your fiancee.
So the fiancee who's put his trashy blazer suit on your shoulders is called Jin.
Jisoo pointed at me, "this is my big brother Mino, Mino this is Irene and Jin."
"It's nice to meet you Mino," your voice sounded like chorus bells and music to my ears, especially when you said my name, "Are we in the same year at school?"
"No, I'm in the year above," I replied, trying to keep my voice steady, while maintaining eye contact. I then turned to your fiancee.
"It's great to meet you man," I lied, reluctantly bringing my hand forward to shake his.
Jin smiled, "it was nice of you to come."
"I kinda forced him to," laughed Jisoo, "he passed his driving before me, so he's in charge of driving me home."
I tried my best to look anywhere but at you, but you're so damn mesmirising. Even after I'd driven Jisoo and myself home from your engagement party, my thoughts were consumed by you.
The way your hair tumbled down your slender shoulders, your v-shaped lips, your smooth ivory skin, your way your eyes were the colour of warm chocolate, melting every time you smiled.
It was these thoughts of you that seemed to muffle the sound of Jisoo and my mother screaming at each other. Everyday was a battle for the both of them since our father had passed away two months ago.
I'll be honest, I didn't feel anything when dad died. When he didn't wake up in the morning, I just felt numb, void of any emotion. I felt neither sorrow nor indifference, only numbness. Truthfully, I was never close to my father. It wasn't that I didn't try to be, we just had nothing in common. Dad was a man of routine whilst i believed in the spontaneity of life.
