I woke up with a start. The nightmare I had felt so real. Every time a new day starts I always feel like my mother is hiding something from me. It's just this weird sensation-

"Rosey come on! Time for school!" My mom yelled.

"Coming mom" I called back. It was the first day of school. I was just about to enter middle school. My best friend, Avery, and I were waiting for this since the beginning of 3rd grade! I can't wait to see Avery, She was in California to visit her cousins and it has been all summer since I have seen her. I quickly got in the shower, changed my clothes, put a little makeup on, to where my mom wouldn't notice, and went downstairs,

"Hey mom," I said with excitement, sitting on the high stool.

"What's my girl up to today," said my mom. " How about I take you and Avery out for ice cream after school."

" I love that, thanks," I said back. " Also about Avery, have you seen her walk over, we always walk to school together."

"No, sorry honey," said my mom coming toward me to give me my lunch box. " Are you ok darling, listen if anything wrong happens in school you can always tell me got it?" she said as she scared of something.

I walked to the door. ¨ Mom I really don't feel taking the bus to school.¨

"Here come on.¨ she said. ¨ How about I take you.¨

I hugged her. " thanks,¨ I said.

We went to the garage. Hopped in the car, time to go. When we got there I had butterflies in my stomach. The first day is always the most complicated day. When I went out of the car I saw a group of girls. They must be a popular group. I remember my older brother ( Max, now in 8th grade) told me about them. Then when I saw them one of them looked very familiar. Then I realized that was Avery!

I got so happy. I ran over to her and screamed" Avery!"Avery didn't look too happy to see me.

¨Ummm hey.¨ she said very awkwardly.

¨Why didn't you ever tell me that you weren't going to walk with me?¨ ¨And that you made new....friends.¨ I asked.

¨I was going too but, They told me not to. Sorry¨ She said very rudely. I looked at her face. She was wearing so much makeup. Her outfit was not her. She looked like a different person.

"Hey, I have to go to hang with them. Ok"

¨Who's they?¨ I asked.

" Oh, you know those really popular girls, Zoe, Riley, and Pearl?" She said like I was supposed to know all this stuff.

" Not really, but did hear they are really mean. Not trying to be rude or anything." I said Avery didn't seem to happy when said that. "Hey, so you want to come over after school. My mom said she was gonna get us ice cream." Before I met Avery, I knew she was going to say yes, but now I am not so sure.

" Sorry, Rosey." I was surprised when she said my name. Since we were little she has called me R. " Pearl wants me to go to her house. Don't take it the wrong way. I just want to be popular, you know. It's a huge opportunity. They get on the good side of the teachers and always get good grades. Plus they are on the cheerleading team!"

"Not really because you and I were waiting for this day since 3rd grade.' I said. " At least, come tomorrow." I hoped she was going to say yes.

" I don't know." She said. " Maybe, also I think the bell is about to ring."
