white

It is the color of the clouds
Floating so effortlessly in the sky
The color of the walls
You built up in your brain

The cold winter snow
Shines ever so threatening
The lightning in the sky
During a storm

It's the sheets on your bed
And the emptiness in mine
It's the color of tissues
When you cry

White fairy lights
The only light you ever need
The table cloth
Full of lace and beauty

The fur that always gets stuck on your clothes
The hair we'll get when we're old
The tag on the new stuff you buy
The blank space of a picture frame

It stands for innocence
But could it be more
No cleanliness hidden here
Perfection isn't a word we know

White isn't my safety
It's the harshness of reality
Blinding me ever so often
The opposite of success

It's the straight jacket
And the hospital room
Making me feel trapped
Nothing is pure

It just reminds me of your darkness
And that what we live is a lie
Nothing stays white for long
Just an image of our failure

*****

White is just too bright for me.
