Strange Creatures

We are strange creatures
Craving affection and love
Wanting to be heard and understood.

But always being beaten down and threatened,
You once thought the world was beautiful and fresh,
But the scars you bear tell of another story,
One filled with abuse and neglect.

Filled with loneliness.
Once the world was glittering before your eyes,
That was innocence
One that got snatched away from you
At an early age.

You were too young and naive
Too innocent to comprehend
The damage being made to you.

You see, we are all peculiar creatures
Even when all seems gone
We will still hold on to the light,
A glimpse of hope that everything will turn out alright.

Always craving affection
Anything
But the ones who are broken

They understand more about the world and its mask.

The broken know pain
They know suffering
They know what it feels like to want to die
To finish the pain, the endless cycle of abuse
Of confusion mixed with regrets.

But at the same time, they crave affection more than anything
More than anyone.
They weren't given love
They were never understood
So they try to find love
They try to find comfort.
For love heals,
True worthy
innocent love heals.

The only problem is finding love
Some don't understand, love
Love is rare and it should be treasured
Just like your soul.
