A Child's Sight

The child is the one who spots the fairies' bright forms amongst the flowers. Her mother smiles, and lets go of her hand, allowing her to run and greet them.

Her daughter appears to be extending her hand to the air, chattering happily away to no one.

The mother can't see fairies, not anymore. But she remembers their touch- light and daring, gifts of exotic flowers and fruits, never to be eaten, that dissolved with the dawn into sweet-smelling dust on her childhood bedroom's windowsill.

Fond nostalgia makes her smile, as she thinks- 'play with them while you can.'
