"Oi! Miss Mia Bella! Ya package is hea!" Mia heard from the front of her new pottery store. She quickly washed her hands of clay and dried them on her dingy apron. She flew through the whimsical curtains to see a heavy-set, older man flopping her packages on top of one another. The sudden fumes of sweat nearly knocked Mia out.
M: "Oh! Um...please, be careful with those. They are original pieces from my home region." She said cautiously, putting her arms up every time he almost dropped a package.
Accented Man: "Oh yeah? Who's da artist?"
"Well, I am!" She said confidently.
"Hm, right. So that'll be 50 pokens." He said unimpressed.
Mia dropped her shoulders and struggled getting the money out of her very used cash register. She moved to the Alola region only 2 months ago, and she was struggling to pay for all her supplies and overpriced rent. Her whole motive for moving to Alola was because she wanted to move to a region that wasn't as competitive with art. The Kalos region was known for its spectacular culinary, visual, and performing arts. Her father helped her turn the downstairs apartment into a small pottery shop, but it was too far from the bustling streets of the art district for much business. She also wanted to provide lessons to a region that was unfamiliar with pottery making. However, Mia Bella did not do enough research on the islands. Although the region was not arts-based just yet, she failed to realize how different people acted in the new region and how all the available spaces were way too overpriced. I mean, everything IS near the water. $$$
M: "Here you go, sir. Merci." (Thank you)
AM: "If I was you, I'd not speak that kantonian talk hea." He says as he stuffs the money in his stained pocket and heads out the door. Mia didn't have the chance to correct him. She was Kalonesian, not Kantonesian. Ugh.
Mia Bella pauses and then decides to head back into the back of the shop that's labeled, "Creator's Cave." Her shop wasn't technically open for business yet, but that was mainly because Mia had so much anxiety about making sure everything was perfect so to prevent another failed business attempt. Her tiny Alolan apartment down the street was filled with "ugly" pots and sculptures that she felt were not worthy of being on display at the shop. She begged her father to send some of her favorite pottery from home to display in the window.
Mia Bella turned the used potting wheel on and sat on her rickety stool. Just as she placed her hands on a wet mound of clay, she heard her front door and bell swing aggressively. It startled her, making the spinning clay fly off the wheel. She ignored the clay, and slowly went to turn off her wheel to listen to the commotion in the next room. Although her curtains, the ones that section the front and the back of the store, are sheer, she cannot see who has barged into her unopened business.
???: "Yo, anybody in here?! I need some pot."
The voice sounded extremely agitated and Mia doesn't have the personality to deal with this kind of energy, especially when her shop isn't completely ready yet!
She took a deep breath and pushed the curtain to the side to face her "customer?"
M: "Um, Alola, how can I help you...sir." She says almost as if it was rehearsed. (It totally was.)
The man looked at her like he was suddenly intrigued for the first time in years. Her extremely pale skin and light pink hair with brightly colored eyes were unlike anything he'd ever seen in the Alola region.
Mia looked up at the tall, unusual man. He was wearing a black and white outfit with designs she had never seen before. Some were like misshaped skulls and triangular designs. The most interesting feature to this man (other than his height) was his white and black hair. The top was white and the undercut was black. Definitely not a Kalonesian norm.
???: "Uh, yeah, can ya get me some pot or whatever?" He says motioning his hands nonchalantly.
M: "...Excuse me?"
"What are ya, dumb? Pot. Like-" He grabbed one of the pots from the opened package from home. "-this. Isn't this a pot store?"
"Oh, um...it is, but we usually say pottery. I guess it's a common mistake though...?"
"This. Is. A. Pot. Right?"
"Yes, but-"
"So, how much?" He holds the pot dangerously in one hand and searches his pocket with the other.
"Well, that's not...I'm not really...um..."
"Arceus, kid. Imma bout 2 seconds away from stealing this shit. Spit it out."
"Well, I'm not a kid. I'm the owner of this store, and we aren't open yet. Also, that's one of my first pieces from Kalos. I...can't sell that." She looked down out of shame. She knew she couldn't run a business if she couldn't let her art go. She didn't notice the man was a lot closer to her. He slouched down to get eye level with her and twirled a thick, pink lock of her hair in his fingers.
???: "Aw, ya poor thing. You're not gonna make it in this town, babe. You're in Po territory." He pushed the pot into Mia's chest and turned around with a swagger.
She stared as he saluted a goodbye. She thought to herself what is this place?
***Author's Note***
Hey! So, I'm trying something new with the Guzma fics and making it completely third person with an OC. I know Royal Pain had a lot of OC characteristics, but I kept the "you" element. Let me know if y'all prefer that style or this style. I'm fine with either, but Mia Bella will remain completely in my control as far as looks and actions go. (I might have more polls to let y'all make some decisions for Mia like I've done in the past with my first fic. Thank you to everyone that voted for this storyline! I hope I am able to do it justice and remember exactly what I wanted to do with the progression of the story. I know I paint Guzma as an asshole at first like always, but that's just how I see him and like him. 🤷🏻♀️ Anyways, as always, please comment, like, and subscribe to the story so I know y'all are ready for more!
